SUMMARY:
The Assistant Director of Pupil Services provides leadership for the district-wide special educational support services through planning, coordination, supervision and evaluation of all activities associated with staff assigned to the special education department as well as serves as CSE Chairperson.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Other duties may be assigned.
1.
Supervises the operation of all District special education programs.
2.
Supervises and evaluates special education teachers, teaching assistants, 1:1 aides, and clerical staff.
3.
Attends the District's Committee on Special Education meetings as needed.
4.
Works in collaboration with District staff, caregivers, community and appropriate agencies for the welfare and benefit of all students.
5.
Serves as a CSE Chairperson for the district.
6.
Effectively schedules and manages multiple initial, annual reviews and manifestation meetings.
7.
Works with director, CSE chair and facilitator to plan needed professional development around the need of the department.
8.
Conducts monthly staff meetings and other related meetings as needed.
9.
Supervises and monitors all CSE recommendations.
10.
Offers recommendations concerning the implementation of legislation regarding special education and pupil support services.
11.
Develops and implements Special Education programs in compliance with federal and state regulations.
12.
Works with the State Education Department to ensure compliance in all areas of responsibility.
13.
Serves as liaison to the BOCES Special Education Department, county agencies, and family court.
14.
Assists in the recruitment and selection of special education and pupil support staff.
15.
Collaborates with building principals and staff to create schedules.
16.
Makes recommendations for staff assignments.
17.
Works collaboratively with the Director of Transportation to provide transportation for students in the special education program.
18.
Maintains accurate CSE data in the district.
19.
Reports to school on time.
20.
Maintains confidentiality.
21.
Adheres to and enforces the CCSD Code of Conduct.
22.
Participates, when appropriate, in continuous professional growth and development related to the supervised areas of responsibility.
23.
Attends required meetings and follows building rules, procedures and district policies.
24.
Maintains positive, cooperative and mutually supportive relationships with students, staff, caregivers, colleagues, district personnel and community.
25.
Uses excellent written and oral English skills when communicating with students, staff, caregivers and community.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Supervises Special Education Teachers, Teaching Assistants, 1:1 Aides, and Clerical Staff.
OTHER:
Performs related duties as required or assigned.
