Description

The Senior Director of People is a new and highly visible role that will proactively cultivate and maintain a healthy and engaging employee experience and environment, from an employee's "first moments" and throughout an employee's career with The Social Lights. This leader will be our resident expert and go-to for developing, implementing and evaluating our talent experience and ongoing HR policies, programs and activities.

We are in search of a proven people leader and compassionate advocate who's motivated to shape an engaging, inclusive workplace where people are supported with the tools, resources and motivation to do their best work. Creative problem-solving, strong people leadership and strategic decision-making are crucial. The ideal candidate is a self-starter who thrives in an entrepreneurial and ambitious environment. This role will report to the Vice President of Operations.

Essential Functions

Recruiting & Onboarding
  • Lead end-to-end recruitment efforts: hiring brief, job postings, applicant tracking, screening, interview process and offer/negotiations, in partnership with hiring manager.
  • Develop proactive talent acquisition strategies, and build a pipeline of future talent.
  • Guide hiring managers and teams through effective, inclusive and unbiased hiring and interviewing practices and decision making.
  • Lead TSL's 90-day onboarding process and implementation, and conduct "early day check ins" to ensure new employees' onboarding experience is positive.
  • Present a strategic business plan for initiatives such as prospect marketing through digital, social, and paid media, job fairs and other recruiting events.
  • Implement an internship program in support of the evolution of future workforce


Human Resources Guidance & Compliance
  • Serve as a trusted best practice advisor who provides a full spectrum of expert advice and guidance on all HR matters including company policies, terms and conditions of employment, employee relations, benefits and legislation.
  • Maintain company handbook and HR policies
  • Ensure accuracy of employee data, document management and that all personnel files are up to date (filing and ongoing compliance).

Employee Relations
  • Develop rapport with employees and respond to issues and concerns with empathy and effectiveness.
  • Assist with employee relations issues; manage conflict resolution; lead investigation of formal employee complaints; advise managers on appropriate actions. Ability to properly document all such issues.
  • Foster a culture of equity, support the design and implementation of diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives/programs across the firm, as guided by TSL's leadership team.
  • Assist in leading or securing harassment prevention and other trainings to protect the company and the quality of the work environment.
  • Manage workplace issues to include disciplinary actions in compliance with applicable federal, state and local employment related regulations


Performance Management & Development
  • Guide and facilitate agency/managers through annual performance reviews, including training on processes, developing effective reviews, and goal setting.
  • Lead the creation and maintenance of inclusive job descriptions and job postings with support of DEIB+A partners and executive leadership team
  • Oversee the research and implementation of employee training and professional development opportunities
  • Support Leadership team and managers with career development, career path definition, promotion evaluation and performance improvement plans.


Compensation, Benefits & Rewards
  • Responsible for administering and managing all employee benefits in partnership with external vendors.
  • Lead annual evaluation of agency benefits package and open enrollment, and manage internal and external benefit commitments, policies and procedures.
  • Lead an annual compensation review process to ensure equity internally and externally.
  • Manage requests/changes for time off, leave or needs within payroll/HR systems.
  • Ownership and enablement of payroll and ATS platforms. Manage and run regular and out-of-cycle payroll distributions. Initiate and process all payroll change forms, ensuring appropriate approvals and compliance with all SOX, federal, and state regulations


Employee Engagement
  • Lead ongoing effort to measure, learn and understand TSL employee experience and engagement, in an effort to identify successes and areas of opportunity.
  • Design and execute strategies and programs that celebrate/engage our people, build positive workplace culture, foster a collaborative environment and increase employee motivation.
  • Bring best-in-class ideas to build the workforce of the future.
  • Fuel TSL's culture and values in your actions and ideas.


Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
  • 10+ years of Human Resources and Talent Acquisition experience, preferably in an agency or professional services setting.
  • Experience in social media highly preferred.
  • Hands-on experience with Human Resources Management Software (including payroll systems and applicant tracking systems).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong supervisory and leadership skills.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and to delegate them when appropriate.
  • Ability to function well in a high-paced and at times stressful environment.
  • Thorough understanding of state and federal laws concerning employee benefits, payroll and employment law.
  • Experience developing and implementing processes, systems, and tools that create and sustain a positive organizational culture.
  • Experience collaborating with senior leaders to create staffing plans, solve problems and influence change.
  • Ability to confidently assert authority when needed to ensure the right course of action is followed to both protect the business and serve employees.
  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Labor Relations, Organizational Development, Business or related area. Relevant work experience may be a substitute.
  • SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP certification preferred.
  • Openness to a hybrid work environment, with weekly in-person work days.
