POSITION SUMMARY The Rail Transportation Manager in Aberdeen, SD is responsible for overseeing the rail freight activities regarding the movement of corn, soybeans, wheat, and other crops through a system of over 40 elevators including 11 shuttle loaders located in North and South Dakota. This position will assist the Product Line Managers to maximize the logistical efficiencies of the Agtegra network. The Rail Transportation Manger's duties may include but are not limited to participating in the grain department's strategies, fertilizer logistics, railroad relationships, and supporting Agtegra's safety culture.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES- Supports the Agtegra Elevator System by managing the day-to-day grain rail freight.
- Maintains a thorough knowledge of rail car market value, rail freight rates, car costs, truck freight rates, and is the company's primary contact to all rail providers.
- Actively focuses on rail provider customer relationships.
- Contributes to development of policies and procedures for various activities related to the companies assigned rail activities for both grain and agronomy division.
- Promotes company communication efforts at all levels regarding rail market intelligence, rail policies, procedures, and grain division direction as it relates to rail freight.
- Provides input on grain related capital expenditure products with a focus on rail services and pricing.
- Manages all rail contracts.
- Implements, executes, and accounts for grain rail freight traded according to company plan while communicating to locations, Product Line Managers, and management.
- Aids in developing programs to maximize the effectiveness and efficiency of the company's grain presence and works with company personnel to increase origination.
- Pursues company objectives including growth of volumes as well as market share, alternative market development, comparative advantages, and intra-company efficiencies.
- Must have willingness to learn all aspects of the business and be prepared to proficiently execute any task that is required.
- Acts as a mentor to all full-time staff and interns while helping them progress as employees and individuals.
- Additional responsibilities as directed by upper management may include participating in meetings, training, recruiting, community relations, or committees.
- Participate in and actively support Agtegra's safety culture and policies.
- Other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS- Must be eligible to work in the United States without visa sponsorship.
- English Proficiency
- Must be 18 years or older.
- Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university. Minimum of three (3) years related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Knowledge of the agricultural business and grain.
