Responsibilities and Duties:
- Conduct thorough assessments and evaluations of pregnant women with high-risk pregnancies, including the use of advanced ultrasound techniques to monitor fetal development and detect abnormalities.
- Develop and implement individualized treatment plans for patients, taking into account their specific medical conditions, risks, and preferences.
- Perform specialized procedures such as amniocentesis, chorionic villus sampling, and fetal blood sampling, utilizing a high level of precision and care.
- Provide counseling and education to expectant parents regarding their pregnancy, potential risks, and available interventions or treatments.
- Interpret diagnostic test results, incorporating them into the overall management and decision-making process.
- Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team, including obstetricians, neonatologists, genetic counselors, and social workers, to provide comprehensive and well-coordinated care.
- Engage in ongoing research and stay updated with the latest advancements in maternal fetal medicine to ensure the use of evidence-based practices.
- Participate in teaching and mentoring medical students and residents, fostering their learning and development in the field of maternal fetal medicine.
- Adhere to ethical guidelines and professional standards, maintaining patient confidentiality and promoting a safe and respectful healthcare environment.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (D.O.) degree from an accredited medical school.
- Residency training in Obstetrics and Gynecology.
- Fellowship training in Maternal Fetal Medicine from an accredited program.
- Board certification in Maternal Fetal Medicine or eligibility for certification.
- Valid state medical license to practice as a Physician.
- Strong clinical skills in managing high-risk pregnancies and performing specialized procedures.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with patients, families, and the healthcare team.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple cases concurrently while maintaining attention to detail.
- Demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional development and staying current with advancements in the field.
- Experience in research and participation in scholarly activities is desirable.
ABOUT US:
We have exciting opportunities available to provide medical care at East Alabama Health (EAH), located in one of the fastest-growing areas in the state of Alabama. The beautiful Auburn-Opelika area is centrally located between Atlanta, Birmingham, and every beach along the Gulf Coast. Plus, it is home to a diverse, tight-knit community with outstanding school systems as well as a vibrant food and entertainment industry. Auburn-Opelika is one of the largest area of growth in the state of Alabama.
To keep up with the growing need for care in the area, EAH has expanded its facilities. In 2019, we built the Spencer Cancer Center, a beautiful, $40 million comprehensive cancer care facility. A year later, we opened a 35,000-square-foot cardiology clinic with 24 exam rooms, 12 rooms dedicated to imaging, and office space for 15 providers - its called Pinnacle Cardiology Associates. In 2021, our Auburn Medical Pavilion opened in the Auburn Research Park on the Auburn University campus. It houses a freestanding emergency department, a retail pharmacy, our largest outpatient imaging facility, an ambulatory surgery center, and a dedicated breast health center.
Additionally, in 2021, we opened an 11-bed level III NICU to serve the growing patient demand for services in the area. Also on our main hospital campus, construction is underway to add 30 critical care bedsand space for future expansionto our West Pavilion with an expected opening in Spring 2026. A groundbreaking was held in January 2024 to announce plans for a $40 million Center for Mental Health that is slated to open in Fall 2025. This project will include 40 private inpatient rooms, allow for moving our East Alabama Psychiatric Services outpatient clinic to the facility, and provide space for our new psychiatric residency program.
Our main hospital campus, East Alabama Medical Center (EAMC) was recently featured on Newsweeks 2024 list of Americas Best Maternity Hospitals. In addition, EAMC has been recognized as a top provider in cancer care, orthopedics, and mammogram imaging by the Womens Choice Award.
The medical staff at EAH has experienced growth comparable to the area. The physicians here are some of the finest in the medical field and we continue to hire the best of the best. In the past 5 years, more than 130 physicians have been recruited to East Alabama Health. We are looking to recruit additional maternal fetal medicine physicians to meet our communitys growing needs.
