Neuro-Oncologist (M67270)
VCU Health - Richmond, VA

Mission or Goal of Unit: The mission of the Department of Neurology, the Division of Neuro-oncology, and Massey Comprehensive Cancer Center is to provide state of the art comprehensive patient centered cancer care for adults, perform translational and clinical research to further understanding of disease mechanisms and develop new treatments, and train the next generation of neurologists and clinical neuroscientists.  The Department of Neurology is committed to enhancing diversity among its faculty, staff, and students.  Department faculty have a responsibility to provide service to their profession and our community.


Chief Purpose of this position: This position is an Open Rank (rank will be commensurate with experience and qualifications) full-time faculty position in the Division of Neuro-Oncology.  The faculty member must be board eligible or certified. The faculty member will provide patient care, engage in medical student and neurology resident and fellow education, and participate in clinical research.


Position Responsibilities: 

 
Clinical
Primary clinical responsibilities include care of Neuro-oncology patients in both inpatient and outpatient settings.

Teaching
Faculty member will teach medical students and housestaff. They will be expected to participate in a series of formal conferences for the housestaff and students emphasizing issues in Neuro-oncology. They will attend weekly Grand Rounds and lecture upon occasion as requested.

Research
The Division of Neuro-oncology is engaged in clinical and translation research projects. The faculty member will be expected to participate in and, when appropriate, lead, clinical research and clinical trials.

Service
Faculty member will serve on departmental, School of Medicine, and/or University committees as necessary, as well as in a professional capacity in their field, e.g. reviewer, conference organizer, etc.


Required Qualifications:

  • MD or MD/PhD degree (or equivalent)
  • Successful completion of a neurology residency and neuro-oncology fellowship at accredited institutions
  • Eligibility for licensure in Virginia and board certification or eligible in Neurology (ABPN) and Neuro-Oncology
    (UCNS)
  • Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU.
