JOB SUMMARYThe Tax Manager position is primarily focused on TypTap Insurance's tax compliance and tax items to be included in the financial reporting processes. Working as part of a team, the successful candidate will support the Tax Director in all areas of TypTap's tax operations, ensuring these processes are administered in a timely, efficient and effective manner and in accordance with the Company's control procedures; and to provide technical tax support to the wider Finance team.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSTaxTo support the Director - Tax in meeting all tax goals and objectives of the company, including:
- Preparation of tax disclosures for the annual, quarterly, and monthly US GAAP (ASC 740) and Statutory financial statements and any necessary accounting papers
- Preparation of direct and indirect tax returns and payments (Federal and State income tax, premium tax, property tax, sales and use tax, excise tax, information reporting, etc.)
- Supporting the HR team on employment tax matters including benefits in kind and employment status queries
- Coordinate and manage tax audits, inquiries, and notices from tax authorities
- Keeping our tax position under review and updating for market / legislative changes
Other- Subject to business needs, the role may evolve over time and involve further work to support the financial reporting functions, including involvement in the annual reporting process, and ad hoc analyses / projects to support accounting and business decisions

- Serve a tax leader within the department

- Prepare and maintain financial records and reports related to taxes
- Ensure compliance with tax accounting standards and financial regulations
- Identify and assess tax financial risks and implement risk mitigation strategies
REQUIRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE- Hands-on ACS 740 and public company experience preferred
- Insurance industry exposure preferred
- Knowledge of tax financial regulations and compliance, US GAAP accounting principles, and Statutory reporting requirements
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel
- Ability to understand various internal financial systems used to obtain necessary tax information
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines
EDUCATION & TRAINING- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field; Master's degree
- Minimum six years of experience in tax management, preferably in a corporate or public accounting environment
LICENCES OR CERTIFICATIONS - Professional certification (e.g., CPA) is a plus
HYBRID WORKING & COLLABORATION WEEKSTo foster HCI's commitment to creating a collaborative work environment, remote workers will be required to report to a central office location for one week every quarter for collaboration, team building, and educational exercises. Attendance during collaboration weeks is a vital component of our team culture, and therefore mandatory unless exceptions are approved through Human Resources. Additionally, employees may be asked to report to the office outside of collaboration weeks as project requirements, team meetings, or other organizational needs that necessitate in-person collaboration occur. Each department sets the hybrid schedule.
