About the role We are hiring a Lead Counsel, Employment on our growing Legal team based in San Francisco. This role will provide expert legal advice and support on a wide range of employment-related issues, including employment counseling and employment litigation. This role will require a deep understanding of employment law, strong analytical skills, and the ability to navigate complex legal matters within a fast-paced and innovative environment.
The base salary offered for this role and level of experience will begin at $168,570 and up to $238,900. Full-time employees are also eligible for a bonus, competitive equity package, and benefits. The actual base salary offered may be higher, depending on your location, skills, qualifications, and experience.
In this role, you can expect to:- Employment Counseling:
- Advise management and our People team on a variety of employment issues, including hiring, performance management, disciplinary actions, terminations, and compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws.
- Develop and implement employment policies and procedures to ensure compliance with legal requirements and best practices.
- Provide guidance on employee relations matters and workplace investigations.
- Conduct training sessions on employment law topics and company policies.
- Employment Litigation:
- Manage and oversee employment-related litigation, including discrimination, harassment, retaliation, wrongful termination, and wage and hour disputes.
- Represent the company in mediations, arbitrations, and court proceedings.
- Collaborate with outside counsel as needed, ensuring effective and efficient handling of cases.
- Develop litigation strategies, work on pleadings, motions, and other legal documents, and conduct legal research.
- Risk Management and Compliance:
- Identify and assess potential employment law risks and provide proactive solutions to mitigate such risks.
- Monitor changes in employment laws and regulations and advise on necessary updates to company policies and practices.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable employment laws and regulations.
- Collaboration and Communication:
- Collaborate with other members of the legal team and cross-functional departments to support the company's overall business objectives.
- Communicate effectively with internal stakeholders, providing clear and practical legal advice.
To thrive in this role, you have:- Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an ABA accredited law school.
- Active membership in good standing with the state bar.
- 7+ years of experience in employment law, with a focus on employment counseling and employment litigation, including experience as in-house counsel.
- Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations.
- Excellent analytical, drafting, and negotiation skills.
- Ability to handle multiple priorities and work under tight deadlines.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build effective working relationships across the organization.
- High level of integrity and professional ethics.
