YOUR OPPORTUNITY

We have an exciting Senior Platform Engineer opportunityin our Merriam, KS office. The Senior Platform Engineer is responsible for supporting the user community through the implementation, maintenance, and upkeep of the servers/cloud platforms/services/applications they use. The Senior System Engineer reports to the Platform Engineering Manager and works closely with IT staff and management. The successful person brings a can-do attitude and positive energy every day and is prepared to communicate with all levels of employees.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead team meetings, medium to large cross functional/departmental projects. Coordinates the successful execution of project activities. Assists and develops project presentations. Presents to technical and leadership groups.
  • Evaluates and responds appropriately to customer issues and requests. Handles highly complex issues without assistance. Escalates when necessary to appropriate team, individual, or vendors to resolve. Participates in team on-call rotation.
  • Manage a secure and stable server, storage, virtualization, backup, database services, and cloud platform environments throughout the organization and provide metrics to measure performance/capacity/availability and drive improvements.
  • Maintain a stable Microsoft 365 tenant organization wide supporting multiple divisions for services that include but are not limited to Active Directory, M365, and other unified communication and collaboration solutions.
  • Monitor and test server architectures, identify possible solutions, and work with customers to implement those fixes
  • Provides knowledge, training, and solution sets to first and second level support teams to improve first call resolution and increase customer satisfaction. Reviews issues to identify trends and make recommendations for improvement.
  • Works complex incidents, performs troubleshooting, and administers repairs. Drive team to meet team Service Level Agreements.
  • Drives automation, simplifies and consolidates infrastructure platforms.
  • Maintaining and enhancing accurate documentation steps for installation, maintenance, and configuration activities. Maintains platform related inventory and other hardware/software/license tracing documentation.

  • Write and maintain custom scripts to increase system efficiency and lower the human intervention time on any task.
  • Define and documents work and implementation standards/processes/procedures for the broader work group.
  • Drive the design of solutions within area of expertise.
  • Actively coach and mentor others or this from the HD III - Establish training programs and provide one-on-one mentoring meetings with lower-level engineers.
  • Manage and optimize our cloud infrastructure and multiple SaaS solutions to ensure scalability, reliability, and security.
  • Stay abreast of industry trends and best practices. Proactively identifies opportunities to leverage technology, improve processes, and enhance vendor relations to reduce costs and increase customer satisfaction. Work with management team to develop strategic direction for team.
  • Participate in Team member evaluations and goal setting sessions

QUALIFICATIONS

Required:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or Computer Programming
  • In-depth knowledge and understanding of computer systems, systems utilities and tools used to install, configure, and maintain operating and/or network systems, systems software, and hardware.
  • Eight (8) or more years' experience in:
    • Installing, configuring, and troubleshooting server and storage infrastructure technologies or
    • Managing Data Center facility or
    • Installing, configuring, and troubleshooting VMware or Nutanix environments or
    • Installing, configuring, and troubleshooting Linux and/or Windows environments or
    • Installing, configuring, and troubleshooting backup and storage systems environments.
  • Thorough understanding of server, backup and storage systems, disaster recovery, server, backup and storage virtualization and containerization concepts.
  • Advanced understanding of Microsoft Server operating systems (2012/2016/2019/2022.
  • Thorough Active Directory (Sites and Services, Replication, Functional levels, Trusts, etc.) understanding and ability to apply this knowledge in a multi-domain and multi-forest environment.
  • In-depth knowledge of VMware or Nutanix infrastructure components (vCenter, ESX, SRM, vROPs/Aria, Prism, Flow, etc.)
  • Professional experience showing ability to research, develop plans and procedures, coordinate, schedule projects and prioritize work; demonstrating ability to respond to multiple projects within acceptable time frames, and ability to prepare and maintain accurate reports and records.
  • Professional experience demonstrating the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of employees and contractors, to prepare reports and to communicate ideas effectively, both orally and in writing
  • Excellent troubleshooting/problem solving and documentation skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills.
  • Self-directed with the ability to work independently.


Preferred:

  • Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Computer Programming, or Business Administration
  • Solid scripting skills (e.g., PowerShell, Python, Batch, Python)
  • Solid networking knowledge (OSI network layers, TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, Wireshark)
  • Background leveraging enterprise storage systems (SAN, Pure, Nimble, Netapp, object oriented, replication, iSCSI, etc.)
  • Disaster recovery planning and testing
  • Solid Cloud experience with high availability implementations (AWS preferred)
  • Infrastructure automation
  • One or more of the following certifications: MCSE,M365 Certified Enterprise Administrator Expert (M365CEAE), Azure DevOps Engineer Expert (MCADEE), , AWS Solutions Architect Professional, VCP-CMA, VCAP-DCV


SCHEDULE

  • Monday-Friday 8:00AM-5:00PM, The hours and days of work are established by departmental needs and at the discretion of management. After-hours, weekends, and overnight travel as requested.
