Meteorologist (Temporary) to forecast in one of the most dynamic climates in the country. This meteorologist will alert and prepare our TV and digital audiences for everything from extreme heat and tornadoes to floods and hurricanes. We are looking for a team player who can help with every aspect of meteorology including forecasting, preparing graphics, writing web articles, posting social media updates, producing weather explainers and reporting in the field and be ready to go live at any moment with wall-to-wall severe weather coverage, both broadcast and streaming. The ideal candidate must embrace new technology, be creative and live up to our content promise to alert viewers to both severe and nuisance weather events. This role reports to the chief meteorologist.
Shifts will be occasional, depending on business needs, staff vacations, etc. Responsibilities: - Provide accurate and compelling weather forecasts in a multi-platform environment
- Prepare and deliver severe weather updates, interrupting regular programming as necessary.
- Produce clean, creative and informative graphics to tell the weather story
- Write online articles and report from the field or inside the newsroom
- Update website and interact with viewers on social media platforms daily
- Perform special projects and other duties as assigned.
Requirements: - BA/BS degree in Meteorology, Geoscience or Atmospheric Science
- CBM certification from American Meteorological Society, preferred
- 3- 5 YEARS on-air meteorology experience, required
- Knowledge of WSI weather system, required
- Be proficient at posting content to various websites and social media; computer literacy required, including weather and newsroom computer systems
- Be available to work a flexible schedule, including weekends and holidays, and fill-in when necessary
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced and deadline-driven environment
- Familiarity with Atlanta and/or the Southeast or a reason to locate here, a plus
