The Scripps Health Histology Lab services all our Scripps Health locations. Located on the 4 th floor of the Poole building, the lab features stunning views of La Jolla, state-of-the-art equipment and digital pathology workflows. The Histology Manager will oversee 30+ team members that make up both the histology and digital pathology teams, supporting 30+ pathologists systemwide.

Responsibilities include:
  • Oversight and leadership of the activities and functions of Histology and Digital Pathology related services.
  • Provide expertise in all areas of the department to include, but not limited to: H&E, special stains, Immunohistochemistry, Immunofluorescent, and CISH staining.
  • Participate in department strategic planning and contributes to success through effectively communicating goals and expectations to staff.
  • Ensure effective use of system resources.
  • Serve as reference to staff, Pathologists, and others in laboratory leadership.
  • Ensure expenses do not exceed budget.
  • Participate in standards of practice and process improvement activities.
  • Oversee staffing matrices and possesses authority to hire, conduct performance evaluations, and discipline employees.
  • Ensure policy and procedures are followed by staff.
  • Ensure compliance with all regulating agencies.
  • Responsible for day to day laboratory operations for histology related services serving multiple hospitals and clinics.
  • Participate in system committees regarding laboratory services and improvements.

Qualifications
Required Education/Experience/Specialized Skills:
  • Bachelor's degree plus 5 years experience in a histology laboratory, at least 1 of which in leadership.
Required Certification/Registration:
  • Histotechnician, HT(ASCP) or Histotechnologist, HTL(ASCP)
Preferred Education/Experience/Specialized Skills/Certification:
  • Master's degree
  • QIHC(ASCP) certification
  • CAP inspection experience
  • Hospital or clinical lab experience
