Specialist, Mechanical Engineering

Location: Simi Valley, CA

The Specialist Mechanical Engineer is responsible for the design, layout, testing and evaluation of mechanical and electro-mechanical devices or systems. Prepares design specifications, analysis and recommendations for presentation and approval. Analyzes mechanical requirements to determine feasibility of design within time and cost constraints. Investigates solutions to product or process problems. Consolidates results of mechanical design elements for assigned projects. Conducts investigations involving the origination or modification of material, component or process specifications or requirements. Performs product development activities including drawing board layout and interpretation/implementation of customer specifications and documentation requirements. We are seeking an experienced professional with proficient knowledge of the job area and practical knowledge of project management. You may manage projects or processes with general supervision and communicate with contacts inside and outside of your own department to explain and interpret operational processes, practices, and procedures. You will be responsible for recommending enhancements to systems and processes and work to achieve operational targets for specific programs and projects with moderate impact on departmental results.

Essential Functions:
  • Works under general supervision.
  • May be responsible for entire projects or processes within job area.
  • May manage projects at this level with responsibility for the delegation of work and the review of others' work product.
  • Communicates with contacts within and outside of own department and may occasionally have responsibility for communicating with parties external to the organization (e.g., customers, vendors, etc.).
  • Explains and interprets processes and procedures to others within and outside the job area. May work to justify and gain cooperation regarding processes, practices and procedures.
  • Work consists of making moderate enhancements or improvements to systems and processes to solve problems or improve effectiveness of job area.
  • Opportunities for problem solving and innovation are general and may require understanding of a broader set of issues but typically are not complex. Problems may require understanding of other job areas. Problems are typically solved by drawing from prior experiences, with analysis of the issues.
  • Works to achieve operational targets with moderate impact on departmental results. Contributes to the completion of specific programs and projects. Exerts some influence on the overall objectives of the project.

Qualifications:
  • Requires proficient knowledge of job area. May have practical knowledge of project management.
  • Bachelor's Degree and minimum 4 years of prior relevant experience.
  • Graduate Degree and a minimum of 2 years of prior related experience.
  • In lieu of a degree, minimum of 8 years of prior related experience.
  • Proven CAD experience, particularly in SolidWorks/PDM.
  • Proficiency in ASME Y14.5M-1994 and Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) standards.
  • The Ability to obtain a future Security Clearance is required for the role. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.


Preferred Additional Skills:
  • Preferred analysis experience in ANSYS Mechanical, SolidWorks Flow and SolidWorks Simulation.
  • CAD experience in Creo and AutoCAD.
  • Travel up to 10% of the time may be required.


In compliance with pay transparency requirements, the salary range for this role in California, the salary range for this role is $81,500-151,500. This is not a guarantee of compensation or salary, as final offer amount may vary based on factors including but not limited to experience and geographic location. The specific programs and options available to an employee may vary depending on date of hire, and schedule type.

9/80: Employees work 9 out of every 14 days - totaling 80 hours worked - and have every other Friday off.
