THE ROLE: The Media Intelligence Manager will be an integral part of media intelligence / media monitoring work Hill & Knowlton delivers for its clients. This is a multi-facetted role that involves working directly with clients to operationalize new projects, delivering regular insights reports, and collaborating with international colleagues on global intelligence offerings. The Media Intelligence Manager will report to the National Lead, VP of Data & Intelligence.
The ideal candidate will have an excellent understanding of the Canadian media landscape, an interest in social media platforms and trends, as well as an analytical mindset. The role is an excellent opportunity for someone who loves digging into data but also wants to use data to inform, develop, and measure communications campaigns. This role also involves using WPP's suite of Generative AI technologies to explore the automation of typical media monitoring responsibilities.
The role will ideally be based in Toronto, but candidates based near one of Hill & Knowlton's (Vancouver, Montréal, Ottawa) other Canadian operations will also be considered.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES- Analyze traditional and social media data: Evaluate our clients' and competitors' presence across traditional and social media and identify opportunities to build and protect their brand. Advise on opportunities with key media outlets and identify strategic improvements.
- Point of expertise: Our teams use a variety of media intelligence tools, like Meltwater, Cision, and Brandwatch (among others), and you would be the point person for guidance and best practices on these tools.
- Data storytelling: We do more than provide data, we distill information down to meaningful insights and strategies. Being an effective writer and communicator is key to this role. The role will provide opportunities to grow your presence as a thought leader through appearances at industry events and conferences.
- Client relationships: We pride ourselves on our relentless pursuit of client satisfaction. You would be trusted business partner for clients looking to better understand their presence in the media. This can involve scoping and executing research projects, reviewing and optimizing existing processes, and developing training programs.
CRITICAL EXPERIENCEAs the Media Intelligence Manager, you will have:
- Minimum 5 years of experience in public relations, media monitoring, or strategic communications - agency (PR, advertising, or marketing) experience is an asset though not required.
- Analytical thinking and the ability to break complex problems down into an actionable research plan.
- Experiencing using any of the following media intelligence platforms (e.g., Meltwater, Cision, Brandwatch, Quid, OPoint)
- Strong attention to detail.
- Experience developing queries with Boolean logic.
- Strong understanding of typical media intelligence metrics, including Reach, Impressions, Engagement, Share of Voice, etc.
- Thorough understanding of the Canadian media landscape and key reporters.
- Bilingual capabilities: English and French fluency is highly desirable.
