Description Leidos is seeking a talented mid-senior Mechanical Engineer to join our diverse team and create unique solutions to complex problems for the Leidos Innovation Center (LInC) in San Diego. Experience in design for manufacturing would also be desirable for this position. - Create part and assembly drawings; participate in design reviews.
- Build prototypes, analyze failures, and implement solutions.
- Develop novel tooling solutions for assembly, integration, logistics, and test.
- Work with technicians and other engineers hands-on, building, and integrating hardware.
- Assisting junior engineers to solve technical challenges.
Basic Qualifications - 12 or more years of relevant work experience as a Mechanical Engineer in an R&D environment.
- B.S. degree or higher in Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, or related field from an accredited college/university
- Additional experience and technical training may substitute for degree requirement.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a multi-disciplined team; able to perform complex tasks applying engineering first principles.
- Experience with GD&T and performing tolerance stack up analysis.
- Must have strong communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated proficiency with CAD based software such as SolidWorks.
- Candidate must reside in the San Diego, CA area or be willing to relocate to the area.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret Security Clearance; U.S. Citizenship is required.
Preferred Qualifications - Current TS/SCI clearance is preferred
- Five years of experience in space product (space vehicle or payload) design, manufacturing, or support that includes broad demonstrated experience in electrical, mechanical, software, and manufacturing engineering including product design, validation, test, troubleshooting, repair, and support.
- Experience with designing for manufacturing
- Experience with opto-mechanical systems.
- Experience with performing thermal and structural analysis.
- Personal experience physically manufacturing and assembling hardware.
- Experience working in a clean room environment.
