DEPARTMENT SUMMARY: The Center's Marketing & Communications team functions as a full-service internal and external marketing and communications provider for the largest LGBTQ organization in the world. Scope of work includes media and press relations, crisis and breaking news communications and events, website building, optimization, maintenance, and content creation; program and services collateral, communications, and support, graphic design and production, social media management, video and photography production, and email marketing. The team also provides overall organization brand support and promotion.
JOB SUMMARY: The Visual Media Editor is a gifted storyteller who will support creative content production through a variety of visual mediums. They will be responsible for concepting and producing video content and photography for the Center's social media, events, campaigns, and other promotional materials. They will be an important part of conveying the visual narrative set forth by the Creative Director and collaborate closely with the Communications team. The ideal candidate is a collaborative, creative, and resourceful worker who can capture the right kind of content that feels genuine to the Center's mission and brings integrity to the clients we serve. The Visual Media Editor should be able to pitch, create, and execute short-form video content from start to finish, and should be used to working with minimal equipment to get the job done. They should also be passionate about the Center's work and have familiarity with issues, concerns, and passions relating to the LGBTQ+ community.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
• Understand and connect to the organization's mission, and incorporate those ideals in original content that showcases the Center to engage and grow our audience.
• Conceptualize and produce photography shoots and short-form videos for social, campaigns, and evergreen content.
• Collaborate and coordinate with various internal departments for video and photo needs, including events, headshots, promotional materials, etc.
• Source locations and materials for shoots as needed.
• Film and photograph at predetermined Center events/programs across Los Angeles.
• Photo editing, including color correction and image manipulation, for digital and print platforms.
• Video editing, including audio adjustments and color correction, for events and digital platforms.
• Manage the Center's production equipment and coordinate rentals as necessary and ensure all equipment is stored and properly secured at the end of each shoot day.
• Maintain brand objectives and follow defined style guidelines to create consistent quality assets.
• Execute deliverables as instructed by the Creative Director and be able to work independently.
• Participate in various team meetings to represent a multimedia POV and offer recommendations as needed.
• Actively participate in team brainstorming, planning activities, and meetings.
• Willingness and ability to work evenings and weekends when necessary.
• Other duties as assigned.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
• Knowledge of or experience working with the LGBTQ community and familiarity with issues of particular relevance to LGBTQ people.
• A passion for the Center's work and its mission to make the world a better place for LGBTQ people.
• Minimum 3 years of related experience.
• Ability to work resourcefully and be creatively scrappy while still delivering compelling visuals.
• Broad understanding of social media platforms and most engaging content styles.
• Ability to coach and give direction to subjects, specifically those who have no professional experience in front of the camera.
• Proficient using multimedia and video editing software, including Adobe Premiere, Photoshop, and other Creative Cloud apps.
• Knowledge of motion graphics in Adobe After Effects a plus.
• Extensive knowledge of common digital cameras (familiarity with Canon a plus), and shooting in various lighting environments (natural light, studio, etc.)
• Proficient in lighting, audio recording, sound editing, and mixing.
• Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills with strong attention to detail.
• Proven ability and experience working in a collaborative team environment.
• Hybrid (remote/office) flexibility but must be based in the Los Angeles area.
