Garver's growing Electrical team is seeking an
Electrical Engineer in our Frisco, TX office that will be responsible for working with our staff on a wide array of transportation electrical projects.
General responsibilities will include project management, electrical design, and construction support as required for a variety of electrical projects including roadway lighting, parking lot lighting, EV charging, and electrical infrastructure projects. These projects will include photometric analysis as needed, and will including developing infrastructure improvements including the investigation, planning, design, and construction of electrical power, lighting, controls, communications, and other special systems. The engineer will need to be able to manage the design of a project from initial kick off and site investigations, through construction and project close-out, while handling minor project management tasks as needed. The successful engineer will need to be self-motivated, organized, and capable of working independently on multiple projects with varying schedules and deadlines. The engineer must be able to handle the constantly shifting deadlines and expectations of transportation projects, capable of adjusting as needed as deadlines shift.
As responsibilities grow, this engineer will have the opportunity to work on projects throughout Garver's entire service area and with Garver's other business lines. The engineer may also perform onsite construction observation duties, construction administration and submittal reviews for projects under construction.
Day to day responsibilities will include, but are not limited to: - Working with your electrical team to develop detailed design and specification documents including one-line (single line) diagrams, power plans, lighting plans, electrical specifications, and required design calculations under the supervision of a Professional Engineer.
- Coordinating with other engineering disciplines, regional Garver offices, and outside engineering firms on projects to determine potential impacts and solutions for conflicts between the electrical infrastructure and additional underground systems.
- Coordinating with utilities and regulating agencies to determine available services, design upgrades and/or relocations, and any local requirements.
- Coordinating with government entities and clients to verify project expectations, determine additional requirements or upgrades, and coordinate comments and updates during design submittals.
- Assisting the Electrical Team Leader in coordinating schedules, managing multiple assignments concurrently, monitoring project budgets, and ensuring delivery of quality work products which adhere to Garver standards.
- Light level calculations for roadways, intersections, pedestrian walkways, vehicular tunnels, and miscellaneous other systems requiring lighting.
- Voltage drop calculations, electrical load calculations, and additional electrical system calculations to verify system meets the National Electric Code.
- Construction cost estimate including quantity calculations and verification of pay items to meet client requirements.
- Quality assurance and control of projects to maximize design prior to additional internal or external QA/QC review.
- Research of city, state, and national standards to provide a design meeting all government guidelines and requirements.
- Review improvements to transportation electrical systems to determine potential upgrades to electrical design to improve the final system provided to the client
- Some regional travel may be required as projects may require field work for site assessment of project locations and support during construction. Occasionally this travel may involve overnight stays. Regional travel is estimated at 10-20% of time, however if desired there will be opportunities to provide full-time or extensive part-time observation early in your career to provide accelerated hands-on learning and provide a grounding for your design work.
Requirements - Bachelor of Science in electrical engineering from an ABET accredited program.
- 3 years' experience
- Engineer in Training (EI/EIT) license.
- Career goal to obtain PE registration
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, including:
- Strong communication skills and the ability to present designs and technical information to coworkers and clients in front of groups.
- Strong technical writing skills.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office software programs such as Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Self-motivated and ability to work independently or collaboratively.
Preferred Skills: - Technical skills to work, or learn to work, safely and competently with electrical testing equipment.
- Knowledge of Visual and/or AGI32.
- Knowledge of Microstation, AutoCAD, and OpenRoads.
- Experience working for multiple managers with varying expectations and requirements.
- Passion for Electrical Projects.
