Job Purpose:
The Sterile Processing Technician is responsible for inspecting equipment and instruments for any defects, debris, or malfunctions prior to sterilization. The Sterile Processing Technician is responsible for assembling the trays as needed for each case.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
•Inspects and cleans contaminated instruments after surgery, including hand washing all delicate instrumentation, placing used instruments back in the correct trays, changing washer detergent when needed, and running items through ultrasonic machine
•Wraps trays and ensures each tray has an indicator strip
•Label trays with appropriate date/cycles
•Loads and documents items on sterilizer cart; ensures sterilizers are started properly
•Anticipates any items needed for cases; communicates with technicians on missing or unavailable materials
•Demonstrates competency of items used in all surgical procedures
•Assists staff with questions and locating sterile items as needed
•Restocks sterile disposable items and documents materials that need to be ordered or are unavailable
•Communicates with applicable company representative when machines are not working properly
•Responsible for understanding the functions of Steam, Steris, and Sterrad sterilization machines
•Maintain yearly required training:
o Infection Control/OSHA
o TB Testing
o Fire Safety
o All codes
o Location of SDS
o BLS certification

Education and Experience Requirements:
•High School diploma or equivalent
•At least one year of experience in a similar position and/or performing similar tasks
•BLS certification within 30 days of hire
•Working knowledge of Microsoft and Google Suites
Environmental/Working Conditions:
Working environment is in an office/clinic setting. Occasional work hours outside of normal business hours, including evenings and weekends. Exposure to biohazard materials, blood, body fluids, ionizing radiation, and other conditions common to the central supply room environment.Requires use of own personal vehicle for occasional business errands.
Physical/Mental Demands:
•Sit, stand, walk, stoop or kneel, and crouch or crawl for extended periods of time.
•Requires lifting, carrying, or moving heavier objects up to 30 pounds.
•Possess full range of motion in shoulders and arms, including reaching above or below the shoulder in order to operate power tools and medical equipment when needed.
•Finger dexterity, the ability to twist hands/wrists repetitively.
•Vision (e.g., depth perception, color vision, strong vision up close), Hearing (e.g., high pitch sounds, soft or distant sounds).
