Practice Manager to lead our practice team. This position is an excellent opportunity for a skilled technician who is passionate about providing quality veterinary care and is interested in advancing their career by developing their skills in veterinary business operations and people management.

UrgentVet Pet Clinic bridges the gap between daytime general practice and emergency/overnight care, offering after-hours care for canine and feline patients without the additional expense of emergency clinic fees. Our single doctor practices offer care for common urgent cases, including wound management, ear infections, vomiting/diarrhea, and euthanasia, and each of our paperless clinics is specially designed to deliver efficient care and equipped with cloud-based EMR, digital x-ray, and a full suite of IDEXX in-house lab equipment.
About the Position: The Practice Manager plays a central role on the hospital team by managing day-to-day operations, so the doctors & staff can devote their time to delivering efficient after-hours acute care.
As the Practice Manager, your mission is to lead your team and oversee your hospital in harmony with the UrgentVet ethos, actively cultivating culture, engagement, efficiency, growth, and financial stability.
*Please note that this is a working manager position, so qualified applicants must have at least two years of experience in the veterinary field and must feel comfortable working the floor alongside veterinarians.
Position Details - Patient Advocacy: Be the advocate for patients and uphold a "Pet-First, Client-First" philosophy. Ensure a compassionate and client-centric approach to pet care.
- Community Engagement and Brand Ambassadorship : Nurture collaborative and mutually beneficial relationships with referring veterinarians and local businesses, positioning UrgentVet as the foremost choice for urgent pet care. Serve as a prominent brand ambassador for UrgentVet within the local community.
- Inclusive Workplace Culture : Foster a safe and inclusive work environment where diversity is celebrated, and every team member feels valued.
Additional Details: - Reports to the Regional Director of Operations, UrgentVet
- Typically scheduled 40-45 hours/week and, because of the nature of the veterinary profession, longer hours are likely from time to time
- Work schedule includes nights, weekends, and holidays (NO OVERNIGHTS). Work hours are 3-11pm on weekdays and 10am-8pm on weekends.
Skills, Knowledge, and Expertise Veterinary Hospital Experience :
- Current licensure as a Veterinary Technician in the state of New York is required for this position.
- 3+ years of experience as a Veterinary Technician or Senior Veterinary Assistant.
- 1 year of hospital leadership experience or a proven track record of growth within a single hospital preferred.
Practice Management Experience :
- Proficiency in managing labor costs and COGS, along with a general understanding of handling patient volumes and revenue per visit.
- A solid grasp of P&L statements.
- Intellectual curiosity and a strong interest in financial management.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite and social media platforms.
People Management Experience :
- Strong people management skills, including team development, addressing challenging conversations, leading team meetings, and establishing goals with team members.
- Prior experience in managing veterinarians is a plus.
- Familiarity with a professional work environment, emphasizing punctuality, confidentiality, and professional attire.
- Previous experience with performance documentation and disciplinary actions for team members.
Client Service Experience :
- Experience in providing top-notch customer service to clients, with a focus on enhancing the client experience at every touchpoint during the hospital visit.
- The ability to handle client conflicts and complaints while balancing the interests of the practice team.
