To prospective teammates,
I'm the medical director for Ascension Borgess Hospital, located in Kalamazoo, Michigan. I have been a part of Sound Physicians for six years. I'm proud of the hospitalist practice we have built and welcome interest from physicians coming out of training or desiring a career change. Our nocturnist opening is a combination of 3 pm - 3 am and 7 pm - 7 am shifts. I'd like to share more about it, specifically about our people, practice, and purpose, as you consider options:
People
- We are a closely knit, established team of 15 physicians and two advanced practice providers, with the support of a clinical performance nurse. We have six physicians and one APP from 7 am - 7 pm, one admitting physician from 3 pm - 3 am, and one night physician from 7 pm - 7 am.
- Our team comes from all over. Most of us live in Kalamazoo and the surrounding areas.
- We encourage our providers to join hospital committees and participate in medical staff.
- Kalamazoo and the surrounding areas have plenty of bike riding, fishing, hiking, and nature preserves. Kalamazoo is known for its excellent schools, craft breweries, and "Kalamazoo Promise," which allows students who attend Kalamazoo public schools to attend any college in the state at no cost.
- We proudly sponsor H1B and J1 visa candidates, and Sound has excellent in-house visa specialists and licensing and credentialing experts. All required filing fees for the visa are paid, and services are covered by Sound.
Practice
- We welcome the challenge of complex cases at Ascension Borgess Hospital. Our hospitalists manage the inpatient coverage. There is a closed ICU, and our team is not expected to do procedures or run codes. There is a rapid response team that assists.
- For those who like to teach, we work with medical students, APPs, and internal medicine residents from the WMed residency program.
- We hold two monthly team meetings, one each week, where we discuss group performance.
- We have seven on/off schedules, but we help cover for our teammates as needed.
- Benefits include medical, dental, vision, life, and AD&D insurance, long- and short-term disability, 401k with match, paid medical malpractice and tail coverage, and annual CME allowance.
Purpose
- We put patients first. Always.
- A focus on growth and development is a key feature of Sound's practices, where teammates can expand their careers here locally and within the broader medical group.
- We're a community-minded team and encourage our team members who want to contribute in and out of the hospital to help make our local community thrive.
More about our community: People enjoy living in Kalamazoo, Michigan, for its vibrant arts and cultural scene, thriving local economy driven by education and healthcare sectors, and diverse culinary offerings. The city s beautiful parks, recreational opportunities, and a strong sense of community make it an appealing place to reside.
