REPORTS TO: Transportation Director
FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt TERMS: 178-day position paid following the board-approved salary schedule
JOB GOAL: To provide safe and efficient transportation for all learners and staff as designated
QUALIFICATIONS: High School diploma or equivalent
Valid Alabama Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with passenger endorsement and verification of an acceptable driving record through the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV)
Successful completion of the driver's training course meeting state and federal standards.
Must pass a drug screening test as required by state and local policies.
Must meet background clearance requirements as specified by Alabama Statutes and State Board of Education regulations
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: - Transport learners to and from school and on assigned trips in a safe, effect manner.
- Comply with all state and local laws relative to bus transportation.
- Follow all system polices and procedures relative to this position.
- Observe all safety regulations for school buses.
- Maintain discipline of learenrs and report discipline concerns to school administrators.
- Ensure all riders adhere to established bus rules.
- Fuel assigned bus according to system guidelines and/or policies.
- Keep assigned bus clean in accordance with system guidelines and/or policies.
- Follow assigned route and schedule.
- Recommend changes in bus routes and/or load as necessary.
- Complete pre- and post-trip safety inspections and notify proper authority of all items of note in accordance with system guidelines and/or policies.
- Discharge learners at authorized stops only.
- Transport only learners authorized for the route.
- Instruct learners in safety precautions and practices.
- Conduct bus evacuation as needed/required, including safety drills.
- Peform additional duties related to transportation of exceptional learners such as developing special loading/unloading procedures, door-to-door loading and loading, assisting with wheelchairs or other required equipment, and understanding each student?s exceptionality.
- Interact appropriately with children and personnel.
- Report all accidents in accordance with system guidelines and/or policies.
- Communicate with staff members, learners, parents, administrators and others in an effective and respectful way.
- Follow attendance, punctuality, and dress guidelines and/or policies.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding school/workplace matters.
- Model and maintain high ethical standards.
- Demonstrate initiative in the performance of responsibilities.
- Participate in training programs offered as required by system guidelines and/or procedures.
- Communicate potential problems and/or unusual events to supervisor.
- Respond to inquiries and/or concerns in a timely manner.
- Demonstrate support for the school system, its goals and priorities.
- Demonstrate initiative in identifying potential problems and/or opportunities for improvement.
- Prepare all reports and maintain records in accordance with system guidelines and/or procedures.
- Performs other duties as required by supervisor and system leadership.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Medium Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force as needed to move objects.
