Software Developer (Back End Web Services) This is a hybrid role in Ottawa, Ontario.
Position Summary
Thales Canada Defence and Security is hiring for a Software Developer (Back End Web Services) who will be responsible for supporting the Performance Manager in the development of Performance systems for Thales’ Non-Combatant In-Service Support programs.
The successful candidate will implement, integrate, test, configure, and document back-end web-based software applications with a particular focus on implementing software whose primary function is the integration of a system of software applications. The successful candidate will help deliver value to the operational team quickly in an agile, incremental way, utilizing modern software development techniques and technologies.
Key Areas of Responsibility
The successful candidate will:
Design and implement back-end web application and integration software solutions, including performing user needs analysis, design, coding, unit testing, and integration;
Produce software developer documentation;
Identify and analyze software defects and implement fixes into product releases;
Build and maintain currency in software development best practices and methodologies;
Provide products and customer solutions in consistency with all stakeholders’ needs and entity policies, as well as continuously enhance engineering competitiveness.
Basic Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in software engineering, computer science, or equivalent education with relevant experience;
7 years’ experience in software development including:
5 years’ experience in back-end web app software development with Java web services;
Experience with REST API creation and/or management;
Unit and integration test development experience using a framework such as Junit.
The candidate should possess experience with a few of the following skills:
Very strong coding, unit testing, integration, and debugging skills;
Experience with JAX-RS framework;
Experience with containerization, e.g. Docker, Kubernetes;
Experience working in a scrum/agile software development environment;
Strong oral and written communication skills;
Proven problem solving and analytical skills with a desire to learn;
Experience with military or aerospace domains.
Regulatory Compliance Requirements:
Ability to obtain a NATO Secret security clearance;
Ability to meet the eligibility requirements outlined in the Canadian Controlled Goods Registration Program (including ITAR-controlled articles).
Special Position Requirements
Hybrid position. Full time, standard business hours;
Possibility of occasional travel to customer site for technical support / integration activities;
Possibility of occasional travel within Canada for planning events.
