About the role
Reporting to the Manager, Application Development and Cloud Infrastructure, the Cloud Infrastructure Engineer is responsible for providing technical leadership, specialized advice, recommendations and support in the planning, development, implementation, integration, and maintenance of Payments Canada’s Cloud Infrastructure for both internal service delivery and external clients. The Cloud Infrastructure Engineer acts as the owner of IT initiatives related to the identification, evaluation, and development of a series of cloud technology standards used by Payments Canada as well as activities associated with the periodic auditing of cloud-based areas.
What you’ll do
Responsibilities of the Cloud Infrastructure Engineer include:
Participate in architecting Secure Cloud Solutions : Design scalable cloud architectures leveraging infrastructure-as-code and robust disaster recovery practices;
Champion Automation : Automate and streamline infrastructure tasks using programming (Python, Bash, etc.), IaC tools (Terraform preferred), and CI/CD pipelines;
Drive Operational Excellence : Proactively enhance monitoring, optimize performance, implement logging/alerting, and lead cost-saving initiatives;
Cloud Migration Expertise : Strategize and execute the migration of on-premises systems to the cloud;
Collaborate for Success : Partner with development and security teams to ensure cloud infrastructure aligns with organizational goals;
Technical Support : Provide infrastructure-related support to various stakeholders, and contribute to documentation;
Innovate & Learn : Identify and implement innovative cloud solutions, stay up-to-date with emerging technologies, and pursue continual professional development.
Minimum Qualifications
Post-secondary education in computer science, information systems, engineering, or other related fields (a combination of education, training, and experience will also be considered);
Minimum of three (3) to five (5) years of relevant experience in IT infrastructure services, software development, or a related field;
Experience in producing concise and detailed technical documentation;
Experience in technical activities related to infrastructure design and operations, preferably in a cloud-centric environment;
Experience in creating, executing, debugging, and maintaining automation scripts to reduce or eliminate manual repetitive tasks;
Knowledge and production experience in designing, deploying and administering GCP (Azure or AWS considered) cloud applications (GCE, EC2, IAM, VPC, GCS, EFS, GKE, EKS, AKS);
Knowledge of software version control, automated deployment, orchestration (Google Cloud Repository, Ansible, Argo CD, GitHub, Jenkins);
Experience designing and enforcing disaster recovery plans and business continuity contingencies;
Experience working with configuration management tools (Terraform preferred);
Experience with Kubernetes and Containerization;
Knowledge and experience with CI/CD, DevOps principles and workflow automation;
Knowledge of enterprise networking concepts and load balancing;
Production experience gathering, digesting, and improving monitoring and performance metrics;
Participation in on-call support, overtime, and infrequent travel outside of the Ottawa area will be required;
Government of Canada Level II Secret Clearance or eligibility to obtain.
Salary Range
Based on qualifications and experience: $78,031 and $97,539.
