Overview Good Samaritan University Hospital (GSUH) is a 400 bed teaching hospital located on the south shore of Long Island, in West Islip. GSUH is five miles, a ten minute drive, from beautiful state beaches and 35 miles from midtown Manhattan. With almost 900 physicians on staff, we care for well over 100,000 patients annually across the south shore of Long Island.
GSUH is an American College of Surgeons Committee on Trauma (ACSCoT) Level II Adult and Pediatric Trauma Center, a Joint Commission accredited Comprehensive Stroke Center, a Bariatric Center of Excellence, an ACS Commission on Cancer accredited hospital with a Cancer Institute, a Center of Excellence for Minimally Invasive Gynecological Surgery. The hospitals nursing team is one of only 8% of hospitals nationwide to have achieved ANCC Magnet Recognition®, demonstrating the highest nursing standards and collaboration with interdisciplinary teams. GSUH has an open-heart program, The Saint Francis Heart Center at GSUH.
Responsibilities Responsibilities - The hospital supports six (6) closed intensive care units including: a cardiothoracic ICU, a neuroscience ICU, a pediatric ICU, a neonatal ICU, a surgical ICU, and a medical ICU.
- Subspecialty support in all medical/surgical areas including but not limited to: endocrinology, cardiology, nephrology, pulmonology, urology, interventional radiology, ophthalmology, plastic surgery, oral & maxillofacial surgery, orthopedic surgery, vascular surgery, neurosurgery, thoracic surgery and cardiothoracic surgery.
- The GSUH hospitalist leads an interdisciplinary team in the comprehensive care of admitted medical patients.
- The team consists of over twenty full time hospitalists and is expanding to meet the needs of our community.
- The hospital has broken ground on a new patient care pavilion that will be completed in 2025.
- There is advanced practice professional (nurse practitioner and physician assistant) support in all areas and residency programs in:
- Emergency medicine, family practice, podiatry, pediatrics and obstetrics and gynecology.

- Full laboratory: radiology to include MRI and CT services
- EPIC as EMR that is integrated with the entire Catholic Health System
New resident graduates are welcome. There are day and dedicated night/nocturnist positions available.
Requirements:
- Licensed to practice medicine in New York State
- Board Certified or Board eligible within 3 years with training in internal medicine or family practice
- BCLS and ACLS certified
Pay Range USD $210,000.00 - USD $330,000.00 /Yr.
