About the Role The
CDL Class B Driver will make local deliveries of freight and will also assist with loading and unloading of trucks, trailers, and containers. The position will participate in general warehouse and customer service duties.
What you'll do: - Efficiently and safely pick-up and deliver local freight using a small flat, box truck, or other company vehicle
- Load and/or unload vehicles, trailers, or containers as needed.
- Move freight within yard or warehouse using a forklift or other equipment as necessary.
- Process paperwork related to freight.
- Inspect and maintain vehicle such as gas, oil, coolant, tires, lights, and brakes to ensure proper working condition; perform minor vehicle maintenance, emergency repairs, and cleaning.
- Interact with customers in a polite and professional manner.
- Consistently follow all Company safety procedures and attend safety meetings.
- Clean the warehouse, yard, and surroundings as needed.
- Participate in training for new staff when applicable.
- Other duties as assigned.
You have these skills: - Communication skills are necessary as the position interacts with customers, vendors, contractors and/or suppliers.
- Ability to drive a variety of vehicles in all weather conditions.
- Professional customer service skills.
- Must be able to read schedules, maps, Hazardous Materials documents and other paperwork
- Strong mental focus and critical thinking ability
- Strong spatial orientation awareness
- Must be conscientious and aware of safety procedures and issues
- Ability to properly and safely block and brace loads on a flatbed truck
- Strong knowledge of good lifting techniques
- Strong ability to organize, manage time and prioritize as well as very detailed oriented
And these qualifications: - High school education is required.
- Minimum of one year of experience is preferred, or any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the necessary qualifications to successfully perform the duties of the position.
- Ability to safely operate a forklift.
- Class B CDL with a clean driving record.
- Hazardous Materials Certification.
- Forklift Certification.
- Air Brake Adjustment Certification.
Physical Requirements: - Ability to push or pull heavy loads (up to 200 pounds) with a pallet jack.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 75 pounds.
- Ability to sit in a vehicle for long stretches of time.
- Ability to do repetitive motions as well as operate all equipment in a vehicle, which may include grasping, climbing, bending, handling, reaching, hand dexterity, feeling/touching and repetitive motions of the hands and feet.
Work Environment: Work is either performed in a warehouse environment, outside in the elements, in a company vehicle or at a customer site. Exposure to exhaust fumes is likely. Overtime may be mandatory and a Sunday rotation may be a regular part of the schedule. Conditions may also include exposure to environmental noise.
