JOB PURPOSE:nnResponsible for all duties in relation to safely administering medications and treatments to the residents. This position requires legible, accurate documentation on the medication record and in the resident chart. It also requires a responsible demeanor in order for the resident population to have confidence in your ability to administer medications and treatments. Must always act within your scope of practice. If ever unsure of a decision or an occurrence, it is critical for you to call for management assistance.nnMINIMUM EDUCATION REQUIRED:nnSome High SchoolnnMINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:nnOn-the-job training providednnMINIMUM LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION REQUIRED BY LAW:nnCurrent, active and unrestricted Certified Medication Aide Certification; CPR certification.nnADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS: (Preferred qualifications)nnHigh school graduate preferred. Previous experience preferred, but not necessary. Has familiarity and willingness to work with elderly population.nnKEY RESPONSIBILITIES:nnAdministers the medications and treatments, according to the scheduled times, following the medication administration protocol.nnUnderstands and appropriately documents on the 24 hour communication reports.nnUnderstands the resident alert status and documents appropriately in the residents record.nnUnderstands and implements an interim service plan, in the absence of Charge Nurse, Unit Manager/Director Health Services ,as care needs arise.nnAssures caregivers on shift are aware of changes on interim service plans.nnNotifies Charge Nurse,Unit Manager/Director Health Services of resident changes of condition.nnAssists with monthly medication records as needed.nnAssists with cycle fill or re-ordering of medications.nnUnderstands and returns medications for credit as needed.nnMonitors medications that arrive from the pharmacy.nnTimely notifies the pharmacy of any discrepanciesnnMaintains the supplies, cleanliness, organization and re-stocking of the medication room and medication cart.nnOrders supplies as directed by the Charge Nurse.nnHas knowledge of, and can demonstrate proper technique, or can learn how to assist with: a gait belt, sit to stand lift, transfer board, catheter, specimen, transfer pole, trapeze, wheel chair, scale, and other equipment as directed by the Charge Nurse or Unit Manager.nnCapable of taking accurate vital signs and weights.nnAccurately begins a medication error report if necessary.nnFills in as a Certified Nursing Assistant when needed.nnCapable of assisting in care needs of residents, which might include lifting requirements up to 40 pounds.nnServes meals as needed and assists with setting tables and post meal clean-up as assigned.nnFaxes pharmacy to order medications.nnCalls pharmacy to follow up on medications that have not arrived.nnAnswers call lights or finds a partner to answer a call light, if in the middle of a med pass.nnKNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIESnnAssists residents with transportation and appointments as needed.nnRead the 24 hour communication book and respond as necessary to issues.nnReview all incident reports and residents on alert statusnnRead any new interim care plans that could have been initiated.nnProvide the residents with their medications and treatments as per protocolnnDocument medication administation in resident recordnnNotify Charge Nurse, Unit Manager, DHS or Administator as needed when issues arisennGeneral record keeping and filing as needed.nnFamily Makes Us Stronger.
