Where you will work

The Augusta mill sits along the Savannah River, on the state border between Georgia and South Carolina and manufactures light, medium, and heavy-weight coated paperboard. It is a well-invested SBS paperboard manufacturing facility with approximately 600 thousand tons of capacity. This facility boasts over 700 employees and has been in operation for almost 65 years. Located on 3,000 acres, the Augusta site operates two paper machines that produce 1,940 tons per day. The Augusta Mill is Clearwater Paper's largest paperboard facility and is critical to the success of our strategy and future.

Augusta, Georgia is a vibrant community along the Georgia/South Carolina border about 150 miles east of Atlanta and 70 miles west of Columbia. What you will do

The Maintenance Millwright (J1/J3) has a starting rate of pay between $33.45 - $40.95 . This position will be responsible for troubleshooting, modifying, proper repair, precision installation, successful start-up, and reliability of all facility equipment.

  • Troubleshooting and servicing all production and support equipment within the facility in a safe and efficient manner while ensuring minimal downtime.
  • Provides technical support by operating a variety of electrical testing equipment in locating and determining types of electrical malfunctions within the mill.
  • Studies plans, drawings, specifications, and work orders to determine work requirements and sequence of repairs and/or installations.
  • Responsible for bearing installation, maintenance, and replacement.
  • Ability to work with rotating equipment, steel fabrication/welding, hydraulics and pneumatics, power transmissions, oil seals, bearings, and pipings.
  • Able to read measurements, blueprints, drawings, and have basic computer skills.
  • Holds self and others to a high level of safety standards, ensuring workplace safety policies are upheld and safety rules are followed (lockout/tagout procedures, appropriate PPE, etc.)

  • Participate as needed in safety incidents and help investigate root cause

  • Maintain a clean working environment by complying with procedures and housekeeping responsibilities


What you will need

  • Minimum Journeyman skill level experience in an industrial mechanical system.
  • Mechanical includes experience in the following areas: Rotating Equipment, Bearings, Precision alignment, Product Moving Systems, Power Transmissions, Oil Seals, Mobile Equipment, and Gear Reducers.
  • Pulp and Paper industry experience preferred.
  • Commitment to safety and quality.
  • Knowledge of basic manufacturing practices and strong problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to learn through self-directed study and desire for advancement.
  • The ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Maintains cooperative working relationships and demonstrates a positive attitude and consideration towards fellow employees and supervision.
  • High school diploma or GED required
  • General schedule is a Monday through Friday 8-hour assignment however, employees must be willing to work alternate schedules occasionally that may include early mornings, nights, weekends, and/or holidays and be punctual while doing so. Occasional overnight travel to include flying or driving.
  • Understand and comply with all manufacturing safety procedures including personal protective equipment (required).

  • Able to work in a physically demanding environment including temperature extremes, loud noise, avoiding slipping, tripping, and falling hazards.

  • Physically capable of manual labor that includes bending, walking, sitting, and climbing in and around machinery and equipment for entire 12-hour shift.

  • Able to lift, up to 40 lbs frequently, between 40 and 50 lbs occasionally, over 50 lbs minimally. When lifting 50 lbs and above, Millwright will use team lifting and overhead crane assistance.

  • Work environment includes exposure to compressed air, steam, lubrication oil, dust, and hydraulics.
