Job Summary:
Under the supervision of the 2nd floor Manager and at the direction of Registered Nurses; supports and provides high-quality and competent patient care specific to each surgical patients' condition and treatment plan. The duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following: transporting and repositioning of patients and equipment, meeting each patient's care needs, assisting with preparation of 2nd floor, and properly cleaning of any area of the facility according to policy and procedures. The 2nd floor CNA demonstrates clinical competence and knowledge of principles and practices of aseptic technique, handling of specimens and biohazard material, and universal precautions. The Second Floor CNA demonstrates knowledge of physician order sets per surgical procedure, Meditech documentation, and use of medical and patient care equipment and supplies.
Personal attributes include the ability to be self-directed; demonstrates accountability, professionalism, and receptiveness to change; seeks guidance, direction, and assistance when needed. The 2nd floor CNA works under stress and in situations that demand patience, stamina, endurance, and tact while providing impeccable service. The CNA fosters an attitude of teamwork and willingness to assist others in performing other job duties as requested. Sets priorities, responds timely to issues which require a decision, and ensures desired results are achieved by means of consistent follow through.
Hours:
- .6 FTE - 24 hours per week
- PM & Nightshift
- Every Other Weekend - Nightshift
Specific Tasks Include:
* Participates in preparing patients for admission, discharge, return to surgery, transfer to/from CT
* Routine checks of ice machines, CPMs, patient hydration needs, patient safety, and patient positioning
* Collaborate patient care with other CNA, RN and Charge RN
* Must possess excellent time management skills and be able to swiftly reprioritize tasks to meet unit and patient needs
* Perform accurately and timely routine observation and documentation of ADLs, vital signs, drain output, as indicated per provider order or RN needs
* Demonstrates skills as a team player. Assist others in preparation of the clinical areas and participating in patient care as directed
* Provides safe patient transfers with appropriate assistive devices and medical equipment
* Assist patients with use of bedpans or commodes
* Answer patient call lights as needed
* Change patient linens daily and prn
* Perform daily glucometer and strip quality checks as required or requested by Charge RN
* Keeping rooms tidy and neat, mimicking their own bedroom or home environment, and complying with infection control guidelines and policies
* Serve meals and snacks if needed
* Performs routine room audits, inventory of outdated supplies, inventory and stocking of supplies in patient rooms, utility rooms, med carts, and on the unit
* Protects patients' sensitivities and the right to privacy
* Demonstrates proper technique with pre-operative scrubs and shaves as requested
* Handles/transports specimens, labs and biohazardous material as directed by manager
* Participates in quality improvement activities as requested
* Demonstrates effective and compassionate communication skills with patients, families, and staff
* Other duties as assigned

Qualifications, Knowledge & Ability:
* Demonstrates eligibility for employment in the U.S.
* Current CNA licensure in the State of Wisconsin
* BLS certification is required upon hire
* Ability to relate and work effectively with others
* Demonstrated skills in verbal and written English communications for safe and effective patient care and to meet documentation standards
* Willingness to participate in goal-setting and educational activities for own professional advancement
