Hahn Loeser has an opportunity for a mid-level commercial litigation associate with 3 to 5 years of experience for the Chicago office. Candidates should have sophisticated defense-side commercial litigation experience in both state and federal court in Illinois. We are looking for an attorney who wants to develop and grow his or her expertise in commercial litigation, and who can work with, and inspire confidence in, their colleagues and clients.
Experience and Qualifications
- Illinois Bar admission, in good standing, is required
- Strong academic credentials (top 30% preferred)
- Excellent research and brief writing skills, and experience working with the Rules of Evidence
- Demonstrated experience conducting discovery, including drafting and revising discovery, and responding to and objecting to discovery requests and disputes
- Experience with putting on evidence at hearings (preliminary injunction hearings, trials, etc.) and arguing substantive motions in state court
- Experience with drafting legal memoranda, motions, pleadings, and taking and defending depositions. Some experience working with expert witnesses, either in drafting expert reports or preparing for trial testimony, is strongly preferred
- Mediation and arbitration experience is a plus
This position also requires excellent organizational and prioritization skills, as well as the ability to exercise exceptional professional judgment. The candidate should be able to work with clients, attorneys, paralegals and staff throughout the firm.
