TITLE: SR. BUYER (TEMPORARY)
FLSA STATUS: EXEMPT
REPORTS TO: SR. MANAGER, PURCHASING
SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the Sr. Manager of Purchasing, the Sr. Buyer plays a critical role in ensuring the uninterrupted procurement and supply of goods and services for the company. The role requires excellent communication, negotiation, and analytical skills, the ability to establish internal and external strategic relationships, and a deep understanding of the procurement process. This position is located in Milpitas, California.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Review, analyze, and process approved purchase requisitions for goods or services in Company ERP application such as Oracle or PeopleSoft
- Request, review, and process quotes from approved suppliers
- Negotiate quotes and contracts with suppliers to ensure cost effective and favorable terms
- Conduct market analysis to identify new suppliers as needed to ensure standards for quality, performance, price, and on-time delivery are consistently met
- Maintain and update approved supplier list as needed
- Monitor Purchase Price Variance (PPV) to ensure lowest cost/price; negotiates with suppliers over time to reduce cost; secures alternate sources as needed
- Monitor, track, and help resolve overdue or delinquent orders; escalates issues as necessary in order to maintain delivery schedule
- Monitor and track supplier performance, price quality, and delivery
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support their procurement needs
- Cultivate and maintain strong, strategic relationships with key suppliers
- Adhere to all safety policies and procedures as required
- Perform other duties of a similar nature or level*
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Finance, Business, Engineering or and/or equivalent relevant experience
- 5+ years of experience working in supply chain, commodities, or procurement in a manufacturing environment
- Strong negotiation skills and proven ability to establish and maintain supplier relationships
- Experience using an ERP system such as Oracle or PeopleSoft
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Applications
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of the purchasing principles and practices, including reviewing and approving purchase requisitions, vendor/supplier management, and cost reduction initiatives
- Knowledge and ability to use an ERP application such as Oracle or PeopleSoft to enter, modify, and track approved purchase requisitions
- Knowledge and ability to use Microsoft Office applications to create spreadsheets, Word documents, and presentations
- Able to communicate effectively and collaboratively with all levels of employees and management both verbally and in writing
- Able to comply with all safety policies and procedures
- Demonstrated analytical and critical thinking skills
- Demonstrated organizational and time management skills
- Demonstrated problem-solving and trouble shooting skills
- Flexible and able to prioritize
The base salary for this temporary position is between $80,808.00-$118,834.00. Within the range the individual pay may differ depending on additional factors including job responsibilities, job related knowledge, skills, abilities, education, and experience. The annual base pay range shown is subject to change and may be modified periodically.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
The Sr. Buyer works primarily in an office environment from Monday to Friday. The schedule may be altered from time-to-time to meet business or operational needs; may travel from building-to-building as needed. Stands, sits, and walks; performs various fine grasping movements, bends, and twists; operates a computer and enters information using a keyboard, operates a telephone, and other office equipment. May occasionally push, pull, or lift up to 10 or more pounds.
