Job Description

The Analytical Chemist’s primary responsibility will be to perform analytical testing of volatile and non-volatile components in foods, beverages, flavors, extracts and essences, in addition to developing and validating methods for testing thereof. The role will heavily support various cross functional departments within the company including Research & Development, Quality Control and Operations. The role requires an in-depth knowledge of advanced analytical techniques used in the food and flavor industry and will involve collaboration with international colleagues.


Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Perform analytical testing of volatile and non-volatile components in foods, beverages, flavors, extracts, and essences
  • Develop, optimize, and validate analytical testing methods. Prepare SOP’s and reports as needed
  • Carry out routine checks and perform regular maintenance on analytical instrumentation. Coordinate technical support of instrumentation and maintain supplier relationships
  • Work closely with cross functional teams (Research & Development, Quality Control, Operations, Procurement, Regulatory) to achieve desired results
  • Keep abreast of scientific advances in the areas of analytical chemistry, food science, and flavor chemistry and disseminate throughout organization
  • Lead multiple projects independently in terms of planning, analysis, and communication


Required Skills and Experience:

BS degree in Analytical Chemistry or related discipline (MS/PhD preferred & considered in lieu of experience)

  • 5+ years’ experience in food / flavor industry with practical application of scientific methods
  • GC/GC-MS experience essential, preferably Agilent instrumentation and ChemStation/MassHunter data analysis software
  • Experience with various sample preparation/introduction techniques (liquid-extraction, solid-phase microextraction (SPME), and dynamic headspace (DHS)) for GC/GC-MS a plus

HPLC and HPLC-MS experience highly desirable

  • Extensive experience preparing trial plans, executing experimental work, analyzing data, preparing trial reports, and disseminating findings
  • Possess a high degree of proactive thinking and great organizational skills
  • High level of communication skills: communicating clearly and concisely in both oral and written form. Possesses excellent presentation skills, effectively translating analytical results into business drivers
