Job Description

The purpose of this position is to support the R&D team in producing and evaluating prototype cartridges and cartridge components. This person will diligently and independently execute experiments with guidance from scientists and engineers. Additionally, this person will analyze results, communicate data and issues to the team, and be capable of root-cause analysis to drive improvement in designs or methods. The team is dynamic and requires an action-oriented team-player capable of working independently with careful attention to detail. This position will be located onsite in San Diego, CA.


Responsibilities

• Plans and executes experiments and protocols, supports problem-solving and trouble-shooting activities.

• Summarizes experimental data, draw conclusions, and make recommendations to senior scientists and engineers.

• Develops QC standards and test methods.

• Support assembly of cartridge prototypes.

• May be required to work with hazardous materials.

• Maintain a safe working environment.

• Maintains project documentation and laboratory notebooks in accordance with internal and external regulatory requirements as part of the design control process.

• Maintain good communication with supervisor and peers; carry out duties in compliance with established business policies.

• Responsible for exhibiting professional behavior with both internal/external associates that reflects positively on the company and is consistent with the company’s policies and practices.

• Performs additional work-related duties as assigned.


Qualifications

Required:

• BS/BA in Bioengineering, Chemical Engineering, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, or related life sciences.

• Experience working in a laboratory or R&D environment – including basic skills in pipetting, reagent preparation, dilution/titration, operation of lab tools, lab safety, etc.

• Knowledge of scientific method, process development, problem solving and statistical experimental design.

• Understanding and application of safety procedures.

• Excellent organizational skills and an ability to perform multiple tasks simultaneously.

• Excellent communication skills (verbal and written).

• Individual must be able to complete activities per communicated timelines. Experience working in fast paced R&D environments with daily tasks.

• Ability to work cross-functionally with engineers, scientists, and managers.

• Must exhibit professionalism and maturity and display desire to succeed, be motivated and proactive.

• Basic computer skills including file management, MS Word/Excel, and equipment software.

Preferred skills:

• Experience working with microfluidics or cartridge-based devices.

• Familiarity with 3D printing parts and cleaning and assembly of parts.

• Familiarity with laser cutting and other cutting techniques


WORK ENVIRONMENT

Combination of laboratory and office environment. The work environment may include handling of viral and bacterial hazards, potentially hazardous chemicals, as well as infectious or potentially infectious bodily fluids, tissues, and samples.
