Job Summary
We're seeking a talented and motivated Junior Naval Architect to join our team. In this role will be responsible for assisting in the design of marine vessels and structures . You will work on-site in a fast-paced environment alongside marine engineers, other naval architects, and designers to tackle engineering challenges. Also you will create detailed engineering drawings, manage project scopes and schedules, communicate with clients, coordinate with technical vendors, and attend project meetings.
Responsibilities
• Work within a small company atmosphere with other marine engineers, other naval architects, and designers to solve engineering challenges
• Projects include newbuild and refit designs on all different types of vessels, so the role will be involved with ships, yachts, tugs, pleasure boats, passenger vessels, etc
• Create engineering drawings for both new construction and refit projects
• Manage projects, including creating work scopes and schedules, communicating with clients, coordinating technical vendors, and attending project meetings
• Manage the class and regulatory submittal, review, and approval process
• Some travel and fieldwork will be required - engineers must be able to work safely aboard ships and in a shipyard environment, including climbing ladders and navigating walkways, gangways, and confined space.
Requirements
• Bachelor's degree in Naval Architecture
• A working knowledge of ship building rules and regulations, as well as classification society and Coast Guard requirements
• Propulsion and steering design knowledge
• AutoCAD competency
• Rhino competency
• Knowledge of AutoHydro (or GHS)
• Valid driver's license, US passport, already working in the U.S. and TWIC card (or ability to obtain)
Preferred Qualifications
• 1-3 years’ experience in the maritime industry
• Familiarity with machinery and systems aboard commercial ships, workboats, tug/barges, passenger vessels, and yachts
• Shipyard newbuild or repair engineering, construction • Understanding of marine structural engineering
• Experience with class and USCG submittal and approval process
• Rhino or ShipConstructor software experience
