The Associate General Counsel role oversees the legislative and regulatory tracking of a broad, complex network of federal, state, and local laws that impact the Company’s operations, and summarizing same for key stakeholders. The Associate General Counsel supports other members of the Legal Department and key stakeholders with legal research, as needed. The Associate General Counsel also supports a strong Legal Department in providing support to the Company in its daily activities, such as contract reviews.
What you will be doing:
- Identifying and tracking Federal and State legislative activity.
- Summarizing and communicating legislative activity that may potentially impact the Company.
- Reviewing third party contracts.
- Researching federal, state and local laws.
- Monitor, Identify, and analyze potential changes to federal and state laws and regulations that may impact Company operations and prepare summary reports of same to key stakeholders.
- Partner with key Company departments, such as Operations, Compliance and IT, in defining current legal requirements and outlining future changes to those legal requirements due to a change in law or regulation.
- Work in partnership with key Company departments, as needed, to document legal requirements through documented policy and/or training, as needed.
- Assist with other functions of the Legal Department, as needed, including contract reviews and legal research.
- Other responsibilities as may be assigned
What we are looking for:
- 3 years of experience practicing law, with in-house experience or experience at larger law firm preferred
- J.D. required; Texas admission preferred
- Strong working knowledge of conducting legal research and monitoring legislative activity
- Demonstrated strong verbal and written communication skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, with ability to learn job-related systems
- Demonstrated strong verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills; attention to detail and accuracy; and time management and organizational skills
- Highly proficient in the use of MS Word, MS Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
