The Manufacturing Engineering Manager in Tangent’s Lumber Extrusion Division will play a crucial role in leading and managing the engineering team to support and improve manufacturing processes. This role is responsible for ensuring the efficient operation of the extrusion production lines, optimizing processes, implementing new technologies, and driving continuous improvement initiatives. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of lumber extrusion processes, excellent leadership abilities, and a proven track record of successfully managing engineering projects within a manufacturing environment.
ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Process Improvement: Lead efforts to improve manufacturing processes, enhance productivity, and reduce waste within the lumber extrusion division. Identify bottlenecks and develop solutions to optimize production efficiency and quality.
- Technical Leadership: Oversee and provide technical guidance to a team of manufacturing engineers, ensuring alignment with company goals and industry best practices. Support the development and implementation of standard operating procedures (SOPs) for extrusion processes.
- Project Management: Manage engineering projects from conception through completion, including
- process upgrades, new equipment installations, and technology integration. Develop project plans, timelines, and budgets, ensuring projects are completed on time and within scope.
- Quality Assurance: Work closely with the quality control team to establish and maintain quality standards for lumber extrusion products. Implement quality control measures and monitor production to ensure adherence to specifications.
- Data Analysis and Reporting: Collect and analyze production data to identify trends, areas for improvement, and cost-saving opportunities. Prepare reports and present findings to senior management.
- Maintenance Coordination: Collaborate with the Maintenance Manager to ensure equipment reliability and optimal performance. Support the development and execution of preventive maintenance programs for extrusion equipment.
- Safety and Compliance: Promote a culture of safety within the engineering team and ensure compliance with all safety regulations and company policies. Implement engineering solutions to
- enhance workplace safety and reduce risks.
- Continuous Improvement: Drive continuous improvement initiatives using lean manufacturing and Six
- Sigma methodologies. Foster a culture of innovation and encourage employees to contribute ideas for process improvements.
REQUIRED SKILLS/ABILITIES
- Strong understanding of extrusion processes, equipment, and technology.
- Demonstrated leadership and team management skills, with experience leading engineering teams.
- Excellent problem-solving abilities and a hands-on approach to addressing technical challenges.
- Experience with lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, or other continuous improvement methodologies.
- Strong project management skills, including planning, scheduling, and budgeting.
- Proficiency in using CAD software and other engineering tools.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
- Knowledge of safety regulations and experience implementing safety protocols.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Industrial, or related field) is required; a Master’s degree is preferred.
- Proven experience as a Manufacturing Engineering Manager or similar role in a manufacturing environment, preferably in lumber extrusion or related industries.
- 5+ years of team leading.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer. · Exposure to cold, hot, dirty, noisy and congested conditions in a production plant environment.
