Mechanical Engineer – Launch Vehicle Design

My client, who are a leader in sustainable space launch solutions, is seeking a Mechanical Engineer with experience in the launch environment to join their growing team. We are looking for candidates with a passion for innovation in aerospace, who have hands-on experience with large vehicles, and a focus on mechanical design. This is an on-site role based in their Brunswick, Maine facility.
Key Responsibilities:
- Take full ownership of designing mechanical support structures from clean sheet design, through commissioning.
- Responsible for all aspects of assigned mechanical project/product lifecycle: gathering requirements, conceptual design, material and vendor selection, analysis (hand calculations and FEA), CAD/drawing generation, manufacturing, testing, and system commissioning
- Work with fluids and electrical engineers to ensure clean cross-functional design.
- Create and present technical documentation that conveys design intent and adherence to standards, requirements, and specifications
- Work with test engineers to gather and develop test requirements, to ensure testing will validate design requirements. Contribute to planning, analysis, documentation, and execution of test campaigns.
- Collaborate with internal manufacturing teams and external manufacturing vendors to deliver quality systems
- Manage the project’s schedule, budget, milestones, and track status
- Mentor other engineers and technicians on the team
Position Requirements:
- Minimum 1 year of practical experience working on rocket launch vehicles
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, Civil, or similar field.
- Minimum 3 years of experience working in space, aerospace, or equivalent professional environments with direct hands-on experience performing tests on mechanical systems
- Experience in structural design, analysis, build, and integration of large structures
- Experience with components, such as valves, regulators, hydraulic actuators, pressure transducers, etc.
- Background in composites, machining, and/or additive manufacturing is a strong plus.
