Summary:
Pharmacy Assistants are persons who are trained in the practical, operative and distributive aspects of pharmacy practice. Pharmacy Assistants assist pharmacists in the routine, day to day functions of pharmacy practice to ensure a successful operation of the pharmacy. Through the performance of these tasks and through collaboration with pharmacists, Assistants allow pharmacists to engage in patient care activities that ultimately improve the quality of patient care. Assistants are supervised by licensed pharmacists who verify the accuracy of their job performance.
Position Reports To : Pharmacy Manager
Essential Functions:
- Answer phones, door and pharmacy window in a courteous and timely manner.
- Screens and directs calls, takes/forwards messages and relays information accurately.
- Retrieves and distributes inter-office/external mail, faxes and messages.
- Tracks, retrieves and organizes stored data (on and off-site).
- Utilize a computer system for entering and maintaining patient demographic, medical and insurance information.
- Process third-party billing and reconciliation.
- Assists in ordering and stocking of supplies, OTCs and legend drugs; processes returns to wholesaler.
- Assists in inventory control and monthly checks for outdated medications
- Adheres to all policy and procedures related to narcotic documentation distribution and record keeping.
- Operates a cash register and charge card terminal; responsible for balancing cash drawer at end of shift.
- Counts and pours from stock bottles for individual prescriptions. This functional is performed under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist and the accuracy of the prescription contents is checked and recorded in the EMR by a licensed pharmacist.
- Counts and pours from stock bottles for telepharmacy prepacks. This functional is performed under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist and the accuracy of the prepack contents is checked and initialed by a licensed pharmacist.
- Assists in organizing and maintaining the cleanliness of the department.
- Packaging medication and supplies as well as coordinating currier delivery of packages daily.
- Deliver Hospice medications to patients or facilities as required using the company car.
- Performs other activities/responsibilities as deemed appropriate by the pharmacy department.
- Attends meetings as required.
- Communicates positively and effectively in a team approach with co-workers within and outside the department.
- Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
Required:
- High School graduate.
- Pharmacy Assistant License.
- WA state drivers license and bondable driving record.
- Must possess basic computer skills related to Windows navigation, mouse usage, accurate keyboarding, email communication and password management.
Desired:
- Previous pharmacy assistant experience.
- Bilingual Spanish with the ability to pass a Qualified Interpreter Evaluation from a CH chosen vendor.
