Job Description

Primary Purpose:

The Early Literacy Coordinator will assist teachers with differentiation of instruction to close achievement gaps for all students in reading/writing while working collaboratively with the ELAR Curriculum Coordinator. Responsibilities include providing district and campus-level professional development for initiatives, modeling/coaching teachers, and creating/developing lessons and activities related to the ELAR curriculum.

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

Master’s degree from accredited university with a major in assigned subject

Valid Texas teaching certificate with endorsement in bilingual education

Special Knowledge/Skills:

Knowledge of curriculum design and implementation

Ability to interpret data and evaluate instruction programs and teaching effectiveness

Ability to develop and deliver training to adult learners

Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills

Experience:

Three years of teaching experience in subject area assigned

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

Staff Development

  • Conferencing, Co-teaching, demonstration lessons, and focused classroom visits
  • Assisting in the analysis of data to determine instructional needs
  • Providing Professional Development and follow up tailored to meet the needs of teachers in all grades and core content areas
  • Participating in curriculum planning through grade level/content meetings
  • Modeling effective instructional strategies and best practices for improving student performance
  • Assisting teachers in designing engaging lessons and units of study that integrate technology into core academics
  • Coaching individuals and groups to identify

Instructional and Program Management

  • Creation and management of exemplar lessons
  • Management and evaluation of teacher resources

Other:

  • Attendance at instructional specialist meeting and colleague groups
  • Participate in peer training sessions
  • Keep abreast of current research and practices

None.

Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment including personal computer and peripherals

Posture: Prolonged sitting; occasional bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting

Motion: Repetitive hand motions; frequent keyboarding and use of mouse; occasional reaching

Lifting: Occasional light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds)
