POSTING: FIRMWARE DEVELOPER
HOURS OF WORK, TERM: Full time, permanent

Icefield Tools Corporation (ITC) has operated in Whitehorse, known as the “Wilderness City”, for more than 25 years. ITC develops and manufactures directional surveying and steering products for Geotechnical, Mining and Oil & Gas clients around the globe. Our specialty is the development and manufacturing of gyroscopic inertial navigation systems.
We are seeking a talented and motivated Firmware Engineer to join our team and contribute to the design, development, and optimization of microprocessor firmware. If you have a passion for low-level programming and enjoy solving complex challenges, this role is perfect for you.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Develop and optimize microprocessor firmware, primarily using C, with potential for some Assembler.
Collaborate with hardware engineers to define firmware architecture and ensure seamless integration with hardware platforms.
Implement firmware for microprocessor-based systems, focusing on performance, efficiency, and reliability.
Debug, test, and validate firmware to ensure proper functionality across various applications.
Write, document, and maintain clean code base to support updates and new products.
Work on low-level driver development and hardware abstraction layers (HAL).
QUALIFICATIONS:
Computer Engineering or Electrical Engineering degree or similar experience.
Proven experience in embedded systems firmware development, particularly in C.
Familiarity with Assembler language for microprocessor programming is a plus.
Solid understanding of microprocessor architecture, peripherals, and low-level hardware interfaces.
Experience with debugging tools and methodologies (JTAG, Oscilloscope, Logic Analyzer).
Knowledge of communication protocols (I2C, SPI, UART, etc.) is highly desirable.
Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
Familiarity with static code analysis tools and software/firmware testing methodologies.
