Location: Waterloo, Ontario, Canada
RideCo is a venture-backed high-tech firm that has achieved product-market fit and is in the scale-up growth phase. We are seeking an experienced Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to join our management team. The CFO will partner with the Founder/CEO and the leadership team to achieve ambitious growth targets while ensuring the financial health and sustainability of the organization. You will be responsible for overseeing the finance, legal, KPI management, investor reporting, and human resources functions of the company. You will drive capital raising strategies to support our growth plans.
Responsibilities:
Financial Strategy and Strategic Planning: Develop and implement financial strategies aligned with the company's long-term objectives.
Support the CEO in developing the long-term strategic plan, combining the departmental goals with KPIs that tie into the broader company plan.
Analyze financial and departmental KPIs and provide insights to drive strategic decision-making.
Monitor financial performance and recommend improvements to optimize profitability.
Lead financial planning, forecasting, budgeting, and analysis processes to drive informed decision-making.
Provide strategic guidance on investment opportunities and cost optimization initiatives.
Capital Raising Strategy: Lead capital raising initiatives, including debt and equity financing, to support company growth and expansion.
Maintain relationships with existing investors and stakeholders, and actively engage with potential investors to secure funding for expansion and development initiatives.
Evaluate funding opportunities and negotiate terms with potential investors and other sources of funding.
Revenue Operations: Analyze and enhance the commercial financial model involving customer acquisition cost, recurring revenue, margins, customer lifetime value, win rates, expansion, and retention.
Drive pricing strategies and tactics based on a thorough understanding of the commercial model and strategic goals.
Monitor, analyze and report on the customer acquisition lifecycle and sales pipeline.
Legal and Compliance: Oversee legal affairs and provide strategic guidance on legal matters, contracts, and agreements, ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
Negotiate and review contracts, licensing agreements, and other legal documents, collaborating with external legal counsel as needed.
Oversee the firm’s intellectual property and patent strategy.
Board and Investor Relations: Participate in Board meetings and provide financial insights to the Board of Directors.
Prepare KPI reports and presentations for board meetings and investor updates.
Financial Operations: Direct financial operations, including accounting, reporting, tax compliance, and regulatory requirements.
Ensure accurate and timely financial reporting in accordance with US GAAP and ASPE standards.
Implement robust internal controls and risk management practices to safeguard company assets and promote financial integrity.
Ensure adherence to relevant financial regulations and corporate governance principles.
Human Resource Management: Oversee the human resource function, including recruitment, retention, and development of talent.
Develop compensation and benefits strategies to attract and retain top talent.
Ensure compliance with employment laws and regulations.
Team Leadership and Development: Lead and mentor the finance, human resources, and revenue operations teams, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
Provide guidance and professional development opportunities to team members to enhance their skills and capabilities.
Qualifications:
Undergraduate or graduate degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or related field.
Designated CPA with proven experience (10+ years) in an executive financial leadership role, preferably as a CFO, with a track record of driving financial performance and growth in a SaaS or technology-driven company.
Demonstrated success in leading capital raising initiatives, including equity financing, debt financing, and M&A transactions. This is a must-have experience.
Strong understanding of financial planning and analysis, capital raising, investor relations, and corporate finance.
Strong understanding of technology business models and recurring revenue streams.
Solid understanding of legal and regulatory requirements relevant to the software industry, including contract management and compliance.
Excellent leadership and communication skills, with the ability to effectively engage with senior executives, board members, investors, and external stakeholders.
Strategic mindset with the ability to think analytically, anticipate market trends, and identify growth opportunities.
Proven track record of building and developing high-performing teams, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
Must be able to work in-office a minimum of three times per week.
