Job Summary The Medical Staff Credentialing Specialist is responsible for coordinating the credentialing process to ensure that privileged healthcare providers are properly trained, licensed, and certified as mandated by state and federal regulations. Responsible for reviewing applications, verifies education and training, maintains a database of new and existing providers, and assists with onboarding needs.
Job Responsibilities - Process applications for appointment and reappointment for the Medical Staff and Non-Physician Practitioner Staff.
- Identify issues that require additional investigation and evaluation, validate discrepancies and ensure appropriate follow-up and documentation for further review and/or decision making.
- Maintain compliance of expirable items such as licenses, ACLS/BLS certifications, malpractice coverage, TB testing, etc.
- Respond to inquiries from other healthcare organizations according to established timelines and appropriate release of information per organizational policy and regulatory requirements.
- May assist with credentialing audits and may assist to conduct internal file audits.
- Provide ongoing updates, regarding the status of provider credentialing file completion, to relevant parties within timelines and expectations of organizational procedures.
- Assist in planning and organizing medical staff meetings including creating meeting agendas and taking minutes.
- Cover all functions of the Medical Staff Office as directed by the Medical Staff Office Manager.
- Other duties as assigned.
Education Requirements - Minimum: High School Diploma
- Preferred: Bachelor's Degree
Experience Requirements - Minimum: Three (3) years of relevant experience providing administrative support for onboarding and background checking.
- Preferred: Three (3) years medical staff credentialing
License/Certification Requirements
