At IAA, our tow truck drivers are dedicated to delivering top-notch towing services. They handle inbound and outbound towing of light-duty vehicles, such as motorcycles and travel trailers, for a diverse customer base. Timely pickup and delivery of vehicles, communication with customers and dispatchers, and completion of all necessary paperwork, including title verification, are integral parts of their responsibilities.
Our drivers are committed to meeting performance goals, ensuring safe and damage-free towing, and performing minor mechanical functions for the proper operation of tow trucks. They operate company vehicles safely, complying with all safety regulations and licensing requirements. Responsible for maintaining towing equipment and accessories in good condition, drivers conduct regular equipment inventory as directed by management.
In addition to towing duties, drivers may be assigned yard attendant or loader operator functions as needed. With a primary focus on safety, they embrace technology and stay at the forefront of the auction industry. Flexibility is key, as drivers may be required to travel to Catastrophe events or branch support operations, with deployment notice provided by management, though it may be limited and could require less than 24 hours' notice.
Key Responsibilities:
- Safely operate company tow trucks without causing damage to vehicles in tow.
- Perform pre and post trip inspections to ensure towed vehicles are not damaged.
- Perform pre and post trip inspections to ensure tow trucks are in good working order and comply with all safety requirements.
- Collaborate with the IAA Dispatch Team and Tow Supervisor and be a positive influence.
- Provide excellent customer service.
- Record all pickup and delivery events, and capture all necessary information, including images, on the IAA Tow App.
- Maintain towing equipment and accessories, perform daily inventory.
- Keep flatbed free and clear of debris, clean up oil and residue to maintain a residue free deck.
- Fuel trucks daily at end of shift.
- Route planning and efficiency to maximize daily productivity.
- Verify information on IAA Tow App to ensure accuracy of assignment including payment methods and required documents.
- Verify title information when title pickup is required with the assigned vehicle and communicate any discrepancies with the IAA Dispatch Team.
- Ensure all assigned tow jobs are completed on, or before, the due date.
- Vehicle check-in by recording and filing information on vehicles assigned to the facility.
- Detail (thoroughly clean) vehicles to improve their appearance and enhance their value at auction, training provided.
- Recover keys, license plates, and other information or objects from vehicles at the facility and store them in the appropriate locations at the branch.
- Train for and operate a front-end loader to move vehicles and other equipment around the IAA facility.
- Loading and unloading trucks as they deliver or pick up vehicles.
- Ensure our equipment is fully functional, by performing routine inspections and basic maintenance and ensuring the safe operating condition of the loader.
- Being responsible for lot inventory of vehicles and parts.
- Imaging and recording vehicle information, performing vehicle improvements (i.e., shrink wrapping, etc.), and light maintenance in preparation for sale.
- Remaining calm, alert, and actively avoiding potential safety hazards or situations that may cause damage to property while operating a front-end loader or other heavy equipment.
- Constantly maintaining a safe work environment by immediately reporting any violations of company policy to a supervisor or manager.
- Other duties as assigned per business needs.
Required Skills: - Possess a valid Driver's License.
- Possess valid medical card.
- Minimum 1-year towing / transport experience.
- Willingness to work 12-14 hr. shifts including weekend and holidays (this role is overtime eligible).
Competencies: - Must be attentive and drive with care.
- Must possess route planning and efficiency skills.
- Ability to deal with hazards and obstructions when presented.
- Customer service skills.
- General mechanical knowledge of trucks and automobiles.
- Detail oriented.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Must possess knowledge of vehicle drive trains to successfully tow salvage vehicles.
