THE POSITION
The main role is to provide essential day-to-day support, encouraging the disabled student's active participation in school activities. The employee plays a crucial role in helping the student move around, looking after his or her well-being, hygiene, and safety, in accordance with the guidelines of an established intervention plan.
THE RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist student with mobility, including wheelchair manipulation and posture changes.
- Assist with eating, drinking, dressing/undressing, and maintaining personal hygiene.
- Ensure the student's safety, from arrival to departure.
- Support teaching staff in communicating basic notions of cleanliness and autonomy.
- Handle educational materials and facilitate participation in educational activities, considering the student's strengths and challenges.
- Accompany students during physical rehabilitation sessions, relaxation activities and sensory stimulation.
- Supervise and accompany students during leisure, recreation, and various special activities.
- Administrate prescribed medication and provide first aid if needed.
- Maintain cleanliness and disinfect equipment and areas used by students.
Schooling and experience
- Hold a Diploma of Vocational Studies in Assistance in Health Care Establishments, a Secondary School Diploma or a diploma or an attestation of studies recognized as equivalent by the competent authority and have one (1) year of pertinent experience in those areas requiring self-discipline, general concepts in psychology and human relations skills.
- Excellent knowledge of English (oral and written), knowledge of French an asset.
Other requirements
- Hold a certificate dated no more than three (3) years attesting to the successful completion of:
1. a standard first aid course of a minimum eight (8)-hour duration;
2. a refresher course of a minimum six (6)-hour duration updating the skills acquired in the course mentioned in paragraph 1.
