Executive Director - Villa Italia Retirement Residence

Villa Italia Retirement Residence, a not-for-profit project of the Charitable Corporation, opened in 2003 with strong community support and now provides seniors with a Mediterranean-inspired living experience on Hamilton's West Mountain. The Charitable Corporation, founded by the Order of the Sons and Daughters of Italy, aims to develop care facilities and support programs for seniors, rooted in the belief that individuals thrive with the support of family and community.
THE POSITION:
The Executive Director will lead transformative change during a time of transition and growth. The incumbent will be an inspiring, inclusive, and innovative leader as the organization builds on the excellence of senior living, that is Villa Italia. In collaboration with the Board of Directors, Senior Leadership Team, Residents and their Families, Staff, and Health System Partners, the Executive Director will be a leader in setting priorities and driving excellence in seniors living now and into the future.
KEY PRIORITIES:
Work closely with the Villa Italia Board of Directors to fulfill key strategic goals.
Meet targeted occupancy goals with lease agreements and resident tenants.
Manage and support the staff through leadership transition.
Strengthen and sustain relationships with government agencies, community partners, and donors.
Build and strengthen the senior leadership team through an alignment of its organizational structure.
Build capacity and responsiveness through staff engagement, innovation and partnership development.
Address increased program administration requirements and the need for additional clinical support to ensure Villa Italia Retirement Home can effectively build capacity to meet client complexity and vacancy rate.
ACCOUNTABILITY:
Reports to the Board of Directors.
Key Working Relationships:
Management Team (Directors and Managers).
Board and Board Committees.
Community partners and organizations.
Government contacts and funders such as Public Health.
Colleagues in related social service and long-term care organizations.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
Executive Leadership
Provide assistance to the Board as it monitors performance indicators set out in accountability agreements with government Ministries.
Working with the management team and other staff, establishes short-and long-term goals to direct the continual growth and development of the home in services, programs, staff, facilities and budget allocation.
Establishes and implements the Strategic Plan in the daily operations of the organization through sound and progressive operational plans.
Oversees the evaluation of the plan implementation and management.
Provides inspirational and strategic leadership to the management team and ensures communication to and engagement of the entire organization.
Oversees program and service evaluation and development of continuous quality improvement systems.
Ensures a culture of excellence and best practices in all aspects of the Villa Italia Retirement Home programs and operations.
Working closely with the management team to identify, analyze, and problem solve situations that impact or may affect the organization’s ability to achieve its goals.
Operational Planning and Management
Ensures that operations and activities are carried out in compliance with government laws and Board policies while meeting organizational goals and objectives.
Maintains an efficient and effective operation of the organization through the management team, ensuring responsibility, accountability and functional coverage of all major aspects of the organization.
Reports regularly to the Board, ensuring that it has all necessary information to meet their governance responsibilities.
Ensures the safety, security and good condition of buildings owned and/or rented by the Villa Italia Retirement Home.
Ensures the proper policies, procedures, control documentation and reports are in place for staff, clients, volunteers and tenants.
Financial Management
With the management team, sets budgets and ensures budgetary controls, ongoing monitoring and analysis are completed.
Oversees policy recommendations and ensures timely decisions regarding the budget.
Provides financial statements and analysis to the Board on a quarterly basis.
Ensures statements and reports are prepared for auditing purposes.
Ensures that the Board receives regular financial reports and updates.
The Candidate
The ideal candidate will be an inspirational, and courageous health system leader with accomplishments that include exemplary executive health care leadership and success in similar health care or social services environment. In addition to an executive-level track record and a commitment to a healthy and accountable culture, the Executive Director will advance seniors’ life experience through service excellence and the belief that everyone should have the opportunity to live a life of purpose and celebration through every life stage. The incumbent will be a collaborative and engaged leader, with a demonstrated ability to lead, innovate, and transform seniors’ lifestyle now and beyond within a multi-stakeholder/partner environment.
The Requirements:
Postgraduate degree in business, health administration, health sciences, social work, or equivalent.
Substantial progressive experience within the retirement senior sector industry, or health/social services management, including experience with policy analysis and advocacy, financial management, personnel administration, relations with funding bodies, partners and private sector organizations.
Proven leadership skills and experience in creating, leading and developing exceptional teams, relationship building with residents and families, strategic thinking with a view to growth, public relations, and working with a volunteer Board of Directors.
Demonstrated experience in strategic and operational planning, developing and managing budgets, managing risk, program evaluation, preparation of funding proposals with excellent written and verbal communication.
Willingness to complete Advantage Ontario’s Leadership Course supported by Villa Italia’s Board.
