We have an excellent opportunity to join one of Waterloo Region’s top employers as an Underwriting & Product Associate in our Ontario Mutual Automobile Plan (OMAP) department. OMAP is a department which provides product, underwriting, actuarial, regulatory, and systems support to a group of Ontario Mutual Insurance Association (OMIA) companies that underwrite automobile insurance in Ontario and have elected to do a common filing with the Financial Services Regulatory Authority (FSRA). This group of 30 mutual insurance companies writes a combined annual automobile insurance premium base of approximately $300M.
The Underwriting & Product Associate directly reports to the Manager – Underwriting & Product, OMAP. The Associate is an essential team member primarily responsible for varied administrative and coordination functions supporting day-to-day operations and essential business processes. The role provides support to the OMAP team, including mailbox handling, and webpage management. This role provides learning opportunities and growth, including the development of underwriting skills. The role requires the ability to manage multiple deadlines, time management skills and the ability to adapt to changing demands and priorities to meet business needs.
The role provides support to and liaises with internal work partners and external business partners providing a high level of customer service through the accurate and timely fulfillment of requests. The role is responsible for learning and effectively executing various tasks within the team to support peers to ensure the team meets objectives
This position offers a hybrid work schedule. In-office frequency is usually 2-3 days per month along with infrequent travel.
The Role:
The successful candidate can expect to:
- Compile and effectively tracks information through the creation and maintenance of spreadsheets and other tools.
- Create and distribute routine and ad hoc correspondence, reports, presentations and other material.
- Organize and maintain various sources of information; records, develops and maintains processes and documentation.
- Provide administrative support for meetings and other organizational events.
- Monitor and coordinate updating information on OMAP webpage as required.
- Respond to various administrative requests to meet business needs.
- Work as a key partner with relevant parties to provide support to the member mutual insurance companies we represent.
- Assist in maintaining underwriting policies and conducting product and market research.
Your Skills and Qualifications:
- You have post secondary education in Business, or a related field and are working towards completion of your Chartered Insurance Professional (CIP) designation.
- You have a minimum of one year’s experience in an Underwriting or Claims related role.
- Prior auto insurance experience would be a significant asset
- You have strong interpersonal skills with an enthusiasm for building relationships
- You have strong attention to detail and are highly organized
- You have the ability to prioritize to meet timelines and demonstrate flexibility to adapt
- Proficient in navigating various software and tools and have a track record of high level of customer service and administrative success
