Project Responsibilities:
· Work with mechanical designers during mechanical design process to design a control system that will enable the machine to perform its intended function safely and reliably.
· Formulate and produce complete electrical design package, which includes detailed electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic schematics, cable routing diagrams, panel layouts, bills of materials and material requisitions, based on standard specifications and the customers’ requirements.
· Work with other members of the Controls Engineering Department and other groups to continuously improve methods of integrating controls technology, with the goals being enhanced safety, enhanced functionality and reduced cost.
· Work with other members of the Controls Engineering Department and other groups to ensure that labour budgets and material budgets are adhered to or improved upon.
· Specify all electrical and controls-related hardware and software and produce requisitions for material purchases.
· Integrate third party equipment and electronic component entry into electrical design packages. Examples include serial and network communications, hardware handshaking, opto-isolation, electrical and ultrasonic welding applications, vision systems, motion control products, transducers and signal conditioners.
· Verify that electrical design package is complete, accurate and safe based on sound design practices and accepted standards, and that the I/O drawings meet program requirements prior to issue to shop floor.
· Work with customers, project managers, designers, toolmakers and electricians to solve problems in order to provide the customer with a complete, functional system.
· Work with other members of the Controls Engineering Department and other groups to continuously improve methods of integrating controls technology.
· Provide customers with training specific to their current project (i.e. electrical hardware, machine operation, programming principles, program functionality and program structure).
Education:
A post-secondary technology diploma or engineering degree or equivalent, specializing in electronics, electrical or controls technology.
Experience:
Experience in electrical control systems design, preferably in the industrial automation field. A working knowledge of ePlan and AutoCAD and the ability to keep abreast of leading-edge technology is essential.

- Software for electrical design: EPLAN electrical 2024
- Industry standards that applied to automation: national electric code Gene, UL, CSA, CE (Europe), UL 508A, National Fire Protection Agency
- Functional safety: ISO 13849-1 very specific details on risk assessment
- Basic electrical knowledge
- Nice -Haves
- Software: AutoCAD electrical, SolidWorks Electrical is good but training will be needed for EPLAN electrical
- Pneumatic knowledge
