JOB SUMMARY:
We are seeking a hands-on Director of Payroll and Human Resource Systems to manage our payroll operations and Human Resources Information Systems (HRIS). This role combines strategic oversight with daily operational involvement, ensuring accuracy and compliance while optimizing our HR technology. The Director will be responsible for ensuring that all HRIS and payroll systems, policies, and programs are competitive, sustainable, scalable, and positively impact both the short- and long-term growth of the organization.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Payroll:
- Oversee and execute all aspects of payroll operations, including semi-monthly payroll processing, monthly bonus audits, and year-end activities. Direct the collection, calculation, and entering of payroll data.
- Balance payroll tax accounts by resolving payroll discrepancies with payroll vendor.
- Prepare payroll reports including GL upload for our accounting group.
- Process and reconcile 401(k) retirement deductions (deferrals, match and loans) with John Hancock and American Retirement Plan Services.
- Work closely with HR and Benefits to ensure employees on Leave of Absence are paid correctly, benefit deductions taken, and the employee is returned to work in the payroll system.
- Generates payroll-related data for budgeting and forecasting purposes.
- Oversee the maintenance of department records.
HRIS:
- Manage human resources technology and analytics; including HRIS including Payroll and Applicant Tracking (Ceridian DayForce), Learning Management System, and related reporting.
- Lead the optimization of all HRIS to meet workforce growth requirements, focusing on automation and reducing manual processes.
- Communicate effectively and build strong relationships with diverse stakeholders at all levels, from end users to executives.
- Monitor technology trends in HRIS to anticipate and prepare for emerging HR technology solutions, considering business and user needs.
- Oversee the analysis of payroll and HR data to generate reports, identify trends, and provide actionable insights for leadership.
Leadership:
- Provide leadership and direction for Payroll and HRIS team members, including goal setting, training, development, and coaching.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable state and federal wage and hour laws; stay updated on changes and advise senior leadership on compliance strategies.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Minimum of 4 years of hands-on experience in payroll, with a focus on operational execution.
- A combination of equivalent education and experience will also be considered.
- Proficiency in payroll software and HRIS (Ceridian is preferred).
- Strong knowledge of payroll regulations and best practices in HRIS management.
- Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail.
- Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to lead and develop a team of payroll and HRIS professionals.
- Requires high level of confidentiality of all employee and company-sensitive information.
