General Manager - Paper Mill
The General Manager is responsible for the overall success of the business, reporting directly to the Board. You will be responsible for completing the turnaround of the core parent roll business, leading a team that represents finance, production, maintenance, safety, IT, and process engineering and representing the Mill to the external broker. The Mill has made great strides over the past two years and reached profitability in early 2024. Your first job will be to expand profitability by focusing on cost control, resource efficiency, output maximization, and predictive maintenance.
In addition, you will partner with the Board to craft a long-term growth plan. We expect this plan to include a multi-million dollar capital project that you will lead.
You will spend much of your time mentoring and developing direct reports, promoting safe work practices, minimizing downtime, talking with machine operators, and communicating company vision.
What you’ll be working on:
- Management: Lead the day-to-day operations of the Mill. This is a relatively lean team, and you will be expected to get your hands dirty.
- Continuous improvement: Lead a change in culture that will build cohesive relationships and performance-oriented teamwork. This will be most visible in an evolution from reactive to preventative maintenance.
- Strategic planning: Assist in the identification of equipment, processes, and general projects that will enable the Mill to remain compliant and improve profitability. These will include new equipment but also the demolition and improvement of existing infrastructure.
- Community Engagement: Represent the Mill with employees, union, state and local officials, and other external stakeholders.
Education & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related field; an MBA is a plus.
- Over 10 years of operational leadership experience in a process manufacturing environment, with a preference for candidates with paper industry experience.
- Proven track record of high achievement as a member of an executive team.
- Strong analytical skills, with a history of solving complex problems and making data-driven decisions.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, capable of engaging effectively with diverse stakeholders.
