Director Purchasing - Mechanisms, Motors, Electronics and Fasteners
Overview
The Director Purchasing - Mechanisms, Motors, Electronics and Fasteners is a part of the Americas Purchasing and Supply Chain organization within Commodity Purchasing. This role primarily focuses on leading a team of purchasing professionals that are responsible for strategic sourcing and management for mechanisms, motors, electronics and fasteners. Experience in mechanisms and motors is preferred.
Responsibilities
- Lead and develop team members
- Meet or exceed profit plan goals related to commodities including cost savings, economics, quality, supplier rationalization, diversity spend, working capital improvements and other key metrics
- Maintain and update weekly cost savings roadmaps with monthly reconciliation to actual results. Lead high level negotiations with suppliers for savings
- Support sourcing activities in coordination with costing and engineering to drive a competitive advantage for Adient with financially stable suppliers
- Manage the mechanisms commodity team to meet new program sourcing and cost reduction goals
- Improvement of program profitability through continuous improvement, VA/VE activities, utilization of LPP’s, market testing, and leverage global sourcing
- Develop, coordinate, and steer purchasing strategies for specific commodities
- Support of proper Make vs Buy decisions
- Leverage purchases across all business units and global programs
- Ensure the cost, quality and time-oriented supply of all Adient plants with the required products in line with the respective business plans, budgets, targets and strategies
- Serve as liaison representing Adient external towards suppliers on all commercial and business relationships content including but not limited to quality, cost, delivery, contracts, risks, and technology
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent education within business or a technical field, Master’s degree in Business or related field preferred
- 15+ years of purchasing experience, ideally within automotive or commodity related industry, automotive seating mechanisms preferred.
- 3-5 years’ experience in purchasing leadership role either within direct or indirect purchasing
- Proven Purchasing track record, particularly with operational and strategic involvement
- In depth understanding of purchasing tools and practices
- Controlling and cost analysis knowledge
- Strong leadership skills
- Excellent communication skills at all levels of the business both internally and externally
- Fluency in English; other language skills advantageous
