My name is John Shanley, MD. I'm the Critical Care Program Medical Director for Northwest Community Hospital located in Arlington Heights, IL. I am proud of the intensivist practice we have built at Northwest Community Hospital and welcome interest from critical care-trained physicians coming out of training or looking to make a career change to explore our group and our practice. I would like to share more about who we are and what we do - specifically about our people, practice, and purpose - as you consider your options:
People - We are a team of 5 intensivist physicians and 2 acute care advanced practice providers.
- We provide 24/7 onsite coverage in the 36-bed ICU with medical, surgical, and neuro-critical care patients.
- Physicians work 12-hour day shifts in collaboration with APP who works a 10-hour shift. Nights are covered by an onsite physician, 12-hour shift.
- Within the hospital, we work closely with the multi-disciplinary team within the unit to collaboratively care for patients.
- Arlington Heights is a welcoming suburban community with a small-town feel, offering suburban living with easy access to downtown Chicago and other major cities. Practice - Northwest Community Hospital is a 496-bed, community hospital with a designated Stroke Center.
- The ICU operates as a co-managed unit.
- We are seeking board-certified or board-eligible critical care physicians (MD or DO) who possess or are able to obtain an Illinois license, have a commitment to excellence in clinical service, are forward-thinking and demonstrate problem-solving abilities necessary in the ICU, and demonstrate the ability to work as a team member and perform all technical skills in the critical care setting.
- We work in EPIC, with access to our own internal informatics platform.
- Full-time physicians work an average of 15 shifts per month, block shift schedule, generally in 4-5 day stretches. Part-time and per diem (PRN) physicians are scheduled as needed and available. We work together to manage the schedule as equitably as possible providing intensivists with a great work/family life balance.
