A Nurse Assistant Student (NAS) is responsible for the completion of a five-week nursing assistant curriculum. The nurse assistant student will be under the direct supervision of the approved instructor of the course who will evaluate the degree of competency with a Competency Skills Checklist, upon successful demonstration (adequate or skilled) of all skills to the approved instructor, the nursing assistant student may begin providing direct resident care as a nursing assistant student. The nursing assistant student may be employed for a period of four months from the beginning date of the course or until the written state examination is successfully completed, whichever comes first. The Nursing Assistant student must be certified within four months from the beginning date of the course to continue employment as a Nursing Assistant Student. The Nurse Assistant Student will work directly with a Certified Nursing Assistant and under the supervision of the Charge Nurse. The Nursing Assistant Student shall not perform any skills that he/she has not passed on the Competency Skills Checklist. The Nurse Assistant Student will be instructed to seek assistance for any tasks or skills at which he/she feels inadequate in performing. Reflects the value that the resident comes first. EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE and/or TRAINING: - High School diploma or equivalent desired.
