Position: Driver - NJ Children's System of Care (CSOC) Residential Program
Job Overview: The Driver for the NJ Children's System of Care (CSOC) Residential Program plays a crucial role in ensuring safe, reliable, and timely transportation for youth residing in a CSOC-supported facility. This role requires a responsible individual who can provide transportation services while maintaining a supportive and professional relationship with the youth and upholding the program's safety protocols.
Key Responsibilities: - Transportation Services:
- Safely transport youth to and from various locations including medical appointments, therapy sessions, educational institutions, court visits, recreational activities, and family visits.
- Ensure timely pick-up and drop-off as scheduled.
- Plan and adhere to optimal routes for efficiency while considering the safety and comfort of passengers.
Vehicle Maintenance and Safety: - Perform regular safety checks and basic maintenance on the vehicle (e.g., checking tire pressure, oil levels, and ensuring cleanliness).
- Report any mechanical issues promptly to the relevant department.
- Maintain updated vehicle inspection, registration, and insurance as required by the state of New Jersey.
Compliance and Safety Protocols: - Adhere to all traffic laws and program policies.
- Implement the facility's safety and emergency protocols during transit.
- Maintain current knowledge of and compliance with the NJ Motor Vehicle Commission regulations and CSOC requirements.
Supportive Engagement: - Build positive rapport with the youth, maintaining a supportive and patient demeanor.
- Recognize and respond appropriately to any behavioral challenges that may arise during transit.
- Maintain confidentiality and professionalism at all times.
Documentation and Reporting: - Maintain accurate transportation logs and reports.
- Communicate any incidents or issues during transportation to the program coordinator or case manager.
- Submit any required documentation related to vehicle usage and maintenance promptly.
Qualifications: - Educational Background: High school diploma or equivalent.
- Experience: Previous experience as a driver in a social service, school, or residential care setting preferred. Experience working with youth or in a childcare setting is highly beneficial.
- Licensing Requirements: Valid New Jersey driver's license with a clean driving record.
- Certifications: First Aid/CPR certification is an advantage or may be required after hire.
- Skills and Competencies:
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to remain calm and composed in challenging situations.
- Knowledge of safe driving practices and defensive driving techniques.
- Problem-solving ability and sound judgment.
- Physical Requirements:
- Ability to assist youth in and out of the vehicle as needed.
- Comfortable with long periods of driving and sitting.
Working Conditions: - Regular travel is required within New Jersey and occasionally outside the local area.
- Work hours may include evenings and weekends, depending on the needs of the program.
- The role requires flexibility to respond to emergencies or changes in transportation schedules.
